I open palmed slammed the XCom2 LWOTC ModJam collection into my PC and I received a biofeedback shock from my failed hacking attempt. Field Surgeon on my specialist was bugged so I got wounded for a full 7 days.

I pared down the mod list to Long War, Sgt Hobo QOL collection already had the required dependencies and highlander libraries, now I wanna add all the classes, their dependant weapon packs, and oh god I'm down the rabbit hole again.

Wandering Hobo collection seems like my flavor of dumb mod bs. Currently downloading the 8 gigs of audio from StarCraft and Mass Effect.

What if I weave these two hobos together to form some Uberhobo. Hobrid... Hobridge between two collections.

Huh, hundreds of hours and I never saw this behavior before. Lost sitrep on a supply mission of some sort and I was in concealment watching as a group of lost attacked Advent. Advent refused to fire on them and just hopped back and forth over some barriers while the lost smacked at them. I felt like it was cheating to let the lost kill `em, so I started combat after a five rounds or so .

That is odd. Normally the lost by and large ignore the advent soldiers in order to try and run up to your squad.

If you are concealed and have vision of both the Lost and the Advent, they will activate and attack each other. Usually the Advent actually respond, but maybe their AI bugged out because it knew you were nearby and didn't want to expose the flank to you?

Just tried a random artifact site via OpenXCom/TFTD. Gave my aquanauts sonic cannons, sonic pulsers, ion armor, and chemical flares; standard late-game faire. Bumped the difficulty to veteran, because I was feeling good after trashing a similar site on Experienced with no losses (or whatever the 2nd difficulty is).

I’ve also been trying to not cheese the site (aka blocking the lift with 4 aquanauts, dropping down to shoot, heading back up before retaliation; rinse/repeat until you start seeing “alien panic” messages).

Lift positions for my squad are perfect; directly next to each other. Everyone is assembled in the 2nd floor, managed to get everyone down easy enough and into a defensive position for whenever the Tasoths and Tentaculats start rolling in.

Did I say “start”? Because after 3 dudes dropped down on one side, I noticed a square of the lift they weren’t using that was somehow still in shadow. Cue tentaculat number 1! First guy whiffs his shot ( :xcom: ), second one makes it without any more fuss.

Now I’ve got 3 guys bunched up by the lift, but otherwise still doing alright. Everyone else gets into position to start sweeping around the lower right section of the site, while holding the second lift and waiting for the sweeping teams to make it to the far edge of the map, then they can just move across the entire artifact site in a single line. Works in alien bases in the first XCOM, works fine with artifact sites in TFTD.

Well, it’s dark in there and I forgot to throw chemlights. Remember my 3 dudes bunched together? A tentaculat rounds the corner out of the dark and zombifies 2 of them right away. Bad, but still manageable. Zombies are a pain, but whatever.

…until the damage rolls are apparently garbage, because it took 2 shots to kill a single zombie (before leaving a tentaculat to deal with). Ended up with 1 tentaculat surviving the incoming fire, before a tasoth came down a nearby lift to join him.

Back to the other aquanaut section:
A tasoth pokes it’s head through a door unbothered, and MCs one of my soldiers. An aquatoid pops out and drops a stun bomb on 2 aquanauts; both go down and are out cold. A hallucinoid comes out of the dark and murders an aquanaut standing beside the MC’d one.

The tentaculat comes in and does what they do best (more zombies!), the tasoth moves off into the dark and lands a killshot (despite the ion armor), another aquatoid shows up with a melee weapon and proceeds to practice its stabbin’, Roberto-style.

2 turns, 10 aquanauts dead, unconscious, or under alien control. Survivors are split between the lifts, meaning I can’t get them into the 2nd floor and block access/try to regroup. Zombies and tentaculats will run down the survivors on one side, the MC’d aquanaut had 2 sonic pulsers on him (besides his sonic cannon), not looking good over there either.

I abandoned that hopeless mission, I’ll try again tomorrow :stonklol:

OpenXCom fixes a bunch of issues that the original games had, 2 of which hosed me here: the hallucinoids didn’t do damage with their (freezing) melee attack, and aliens wouldn’t use melee weapons (aside from the lobster men, using their claws).

In the "discussion" part of the Long War of the Chosen workshop page there's a thread where Sgt Hobo has a collection with all the QOL mods. I can't differentiate them at all, but ran smooth enough for me.

I've finally installed that free copy of The Bureau I got and... well it has issues but I admire the intent and I also really liked Interceptor and I really wish 2k would be willing to spin out the franchise more. People got mad about The Bureau because they announced that before the Firaxis game so it looked like they were playing a bait and switch with the IP, not because they didn't want more XCOM games.

So...I saw a random video the other day about a mod called the Xcom Files. Looked nice and pretty X-filey..so I thought of giving it a try (I was raised on the OG games, but never tried a mod on them really).

Started a campaign on Veteran (haven't played the game yet to dare go higher diff)...First mission apparently was a wild animal attack, where I went in with two agents via public transportation (lol) to check the menace.

Upon the map loading, 6 giant bats came out of nowhere and proceeded to tear me a new one. I Rage quit then and there.

Think I'm going to like this game.

Running away is unironically key to what I played of that particular mod. Killing an actual alien rear end alien and running away with their body/stuff is a major accomplishment.

A version of Interceptor that actually worked would be so loving cool. If it had functioned, we would've had a popular dynamic campaign Wing Commander/X-Wing style space sim.

Biggest issue with Gears Tactics is that optimal play is to fire all your non-story characters and recruit new ones after every stage as they'll level up faster that way which is a baffling design decision.

Depends what you think needs spicing up! I have a few mods I tried and generally liked that all work together.

Want to toughen up ADVENT? A Better Advent gives them some additional units and variations, like stun drones and fire mutons.

Want some variety in your own trooper's abilities, but want to keep the basegame classes the same? Throw in some extra class mods, like Akimbo, K's Officer or Stormrider.

Finding the campaign a bit dull? The Covert Infiltration suite of mods alter the geoscape game.

Outraged at the lack of lizardmen? Total Warhammer Saurian Cosmetics has you covered.

And if you wanna go bugfuck crazy, there's always the nuclear option. Haven't tried it myself but it's very well known, Long War (of the Chosen) is a full overhaul that changes pretty much every aspect of the game. Note that it's so big it can't really have any other gameplay changing mods running, FYI

Man, I just finished getting exquisite timing and man, that limit is tight. You pretty much have to rush the shadow chamber and keep it active at all times. I only had time to dip out for tier 2 when it got inspired with a few scientists under my belt and got a single chosen weapon before I had to do the endgame.
