Apparently part of the story is that she 'arrives' at that voice as part of her persona (since it's rumored she was faking the voice). You get glimpses of it in that trailer, but I don't think we hear it full on maybe. Not sure.

Oh it's not rumored it's discussed in Bad Blood and there are clips of her normal voice. I remember thinking I was nuts during Theranos's rise because her voice was so obviously put on and none of the media ever mentioned it. I don't think it even "came out" until Bad Blood was published.

First off, that is very effective trailer. drat.

Second, I'm not one to notice much when it comes to differences in cameras, as far as digital vs. film, and how they shoot and all that. I just tend to not see much of a difference. But even I can see something is different about that movie. The colors are just...god drat. Especially the greens. And the way the light looks at the end of the tunnel? I'm just guessing it's digital, because that doesn't seem possible with film? But again, I don't know what I'm talking about. But that looks amazing.

I need to take a class on this for fun or something, because I find it fascinating in the rare cases that I do notice it, I just have a terribly untrained eye. I've learned a little bit from YouTube channels like Movies with Mikey, but that can only take you so far.

I'm not familiar with the story, but this looks cool! It's weird to see Zac Efron playing a dad now. Also, why didn't the trailer use the titular Prodigy song? For shame.

I didn’t love Devs, and felt Annihilation was partly spectacular and partly a let down. Here’s hoping Alex Garland nails it this time.

For some reason every time I read Alex Garland I think Andrew Niccol. It means that the way my brain processes any news of a new Garland project is: I get excited because it's something from the creator of Gattaca, disappointed because I remember what his careers was like after Gattaca, then excited again because I remember who the news is actually about.

That initial Annihilation teaser made me buy the books which are just wonderful. The movie was… not.

So much of the book is nearly unfilmable but the film really nails the atmosphere and weirdness of the book in its own way without needing to be a faithful adaptation. The same goes for Under the Skin.

Yeah I loved the books. But they are very sort of... lovecraftian in that way they are intentionally written to describe things unimaginable. I thought Annihilation was a fantastic reimagining of the Southern Reach Trilogy.

Annihilation seemed pretty cold and uninvolving and the characters were just there to be take out one by one. It's the same reason why I generally don't like slasher movies.

But it was cool the slasher in the movie was basically not understandable. And it did look hella good.

Maybe I should give it a rewatch

Annihilation was a good, but not great movie. Which is a far cry away from a bad movie, but many fans of the books consider them great, so it’s ultimately tinged by a feeling of disappointment that’s hard to shake.

God dammit. That actually looks pretty good.

The last one was sooooo loving bad, though. Like, irredeemably bad.

edit: I have to remember that this is how Jurassic Park always gets me. They cut a good trailer, and they gently caress me over with the actual movie. Original movie excluded, of course.

It's probably due to my absolutely loathing of the first JW movie (and as a result, not bothering with the second) as well as my bias that these things work best as tense horror movies rather than dumb action movies, but that does not look good to me. I'd be happy for it to turn out great so I could go enjoy a neat dinosaur movie, though.
