Hey, it that coop the larger one or the smaller version? My wife and I are looking to get 6 chickens this spring, and I'm thinking the larger one would be good. Any thoughts on that model? Plusses, minuses?

My neighbor’s dogs got out of their yard and attacked our chickens. Two were seriously injured and we had to put them down. One was a Black Jersey Giant pullet, 18 weeks old, the other was Bertha, one of the Buff Orpingtons that we brought all the way from Wyoming to Georgia. Last summer Bertha raised 3 chicks and she did a really good job. Her pullets Fauna and Merryweather came with us too and sometimes they still roost next to their mama.  My neighbors feel awful about the whole thing and will be keeping those dogs on tethers for the foreseeable future. Our ducks, goats, and neighborhood guineas are all ok. We are really lucky that we were home and saw what was happening quickly. I’m just really bummed.

Sorry for your loss Joburg. Roost in Peace, ladies. Bella became suddenly unwell this afternoon, hunched and lethargic. She was literally full of health and voice until 4pm and then this:  Trip to the vet showed nothing obvious, but but an x-ray shows what looks like an egg on the way. Could be a soft shell (which always make hens feel crappy). She's on antibiotics, metacam and diuretic twice a day for five days. spookygonk fucked around with this message at 21:50 on Feb 7, 2022 |
