I'm trying to figure out how you would even deal with that properly. Set up some kind of temporary sheet metal wall underneath before knocking it down?

How much snow can a locomotive like that plow through before it becomes a derailment hazard or bogs it down?
|
# ? Feb 11, 2022 02:41 |

The small contact patch and inflexibility of wheel on rail combined with weight of the locomotive means the snow and ice will just get obliterated when run over, and it's the job of the front plow system to clear a path enough that a pile of snow between the rails won't float the loco's trucks up to the point where the wheel flanges go above the head of the rail. If you look up locomotive pictures, you'll see they all have a substantial plow mounted to the front end. Momentum will get a train through a drift or two, but when that momentum gets sucked up that might be it for you. There are dedicated plows that can be run in mountain areas where the snow falls feet at a time, and when those get stuck, rotary plows are used to just chew through the drifts and spit the snow out the side.

Probably in this thread didn't someone post a video of a snowblower locomotive that would basically ram in to snow drifts blow a bunch of snow, get bogged down, back up and ram in to them bitches again?

Here's a good video of railroad snow plowing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF2ZPRmocs4 When the guy says "hope it's still on," he means on the rails. "Bring more power out" = need more engines.

PhazonLink posted:drat where do they live that they can have walking signals with a two frame walk cycle. You can have two frame walk cycle indicators, or you can have traffic signals securely attached to the ground. But not both. That's pretty neat, though TBH I was waiting for a hydraulic valve to fail or something and just fling the car off to the side.
