Florio is the most insufferable football news personality and it's not even close. He sucks so much. I would put Peter King at a very distant second.

I am fully on board, Hester should've made it in, but with a limit of 5 it's hard to say that the others didn't deserve their selections

As a former Jaguars fan, Hester should be in over Tony Boselli.

Delighted by Butler getting in. This feels like a year where the Hall decided to clean up the list a bit and bring in some overdue people.

Is it wrong of me to think Hester would have had a better career/gotten into the HOF sooner/possibly at all if he hadn't been a Bear?

I think people forget how dominant Hester was. He was returning close to 10% of punts for touchdowns his first 2 years.

Atlanta Falcons legend Devin Hester. Was Mike Smith still the Falcons coach when Hester broke the punt return TD there? I remember whoever it was being absolutely clueless as to why suddenly everyone was celebrating.

I think Hester would have been a great #2 or #3 receiver. Bears made him a #1 and saddled him with some of the dumbest offensive minds in the game. That shouldn't matter though. He was far and away the best to ever do something in the history of football.

Alaois posted:Sam Mills, afaik the only player to go to the NFL from Montclair State The football field is a muddy mess most of the time and you're up on the mountain with no windbreak during windy rear end NJ winters so field goals become impossible sometimes and everyone is miserable in the tiny rear end stands. The school is also somehow the second largest D3 school and is somewhat successful so I guess that explains the weird loyalty of north NJ. Only problem is that there's exactly one road in and out of the parking garage nearby and for some reason it's always packed on Saturday. Not to mention going up route 46 at any time sucks rear end. The team's roster is also weirdly huge, even by D3 standards. My roommate was 6'3, 220 lbs, couldn't crack their 13 (!) deep WR corps, and became a special teams... specialist. Tuesday workouts has like literally what feels like 100 kids taking up the entire rec center because no one wants to walk all the way to the track gym. It's also right next to the big cafeteria everyone uses so every now and then a legion of football players come through and wipe out whole food stations. It's the most logistic nightmare campus ever and I'm surprised anyone came out of it good enough for the NFL, let alone HoF. Doltos fucked around with this message at 05:41 on Feb 11, 2022 |

Hester joined the Seahawks in his final season only to return punts and he was still really good. He truly was the best punt returner of all time.

Plus that super bowl opening kick return has to be one of his greatest hits that people won’t forget, even if they lost. Related, that super bowl seems to be missing on youtube. What originally sent me down this rabbit hole was trying to find complete sb broadcasts—commercials, halftime, game, etc, but the best I could find was sb 6 (I think?) with some commercials and an amusing joe namath in Miami in the early 70s pregame show. I admittedly didn’t delve too deep, but this seems like a cultural oversight Pontius Pilate fucked around with this message at 07:21 on Feb 11, 2022 |
