Or like make some vendor open up at endgame with guaranteed rares to make it so cleaning up is easier after the bulk of the game is done while still keeping the different playthroughs aspect intact.

But yeah the advantage of rare blades is guaranteed set skill sets to work with or strategize around, and their sidequest. Commons could stumble upon significantly better builds and skillsets, but it's way up to RNG there. Either way it's not necessary to have rares to get through the game.

Strong agreement on 1's aesthetics being better, but 1 was Anime too. Admittedly only Sharla's clothes looked like she was out of a porn doujin instead of about half the rare blades, but 1 absolutely deserves the capitalization.

The only good thing about Ursula was those artists had pretty quick completion times so you could cycle blades through real fast.

have you seen Definitive Edition? they massively improved the menus from the original, and most of the reason 2 was such a mess anyway was because it was rushed with a team that was crippled by having to devote a lot of resources to support work on BotW

so unless that happened again with botw2 (monolith is definitely working on that game but they shouldn't have been surprised by the amount of work the second time around and planned accordingly) there shouldn't such hot garbage UI this time around if DE is anything to go by.

That is Torna the Golden Country. That's the DLC campaign and it's pretty good. There's a lot from the base game that is way smoothed out. It's not super long, like around 15 hours or so.

Amppelix
Aug 6, 2010

also if you buy it standalone it's more expensive so there's absolutely no reason to do so if you own the game as it's just bundled with all of the other DLC in a single purchase anyway

the only reason it's available standalone is so it can be played without buying the base game (which i doubt a lot of people did but i have seen at least one person do!)

There was a xc2 postmortem interview on usgamer back in the day where the director explained the logic of the weird gacha. It was an attempt to get people to use the switch's share button to record and tweet out the summoning sequence when they got a rare blade (or at least that was his publicly stated reason).

Hopefully Xenoblade is big enough now they don't need to create that kind of gimmick again.

If that is indeed the logic then, lol, did they ever gently caress up because the record function is disabled. You can take screencaps, but not record a clip. :v:

The recording function didn't exist at the time the game came out iirc, not so much that they disabled it.

Course they could have patched it in but I guess they were too busy putting qol stuff behind a paywall

Hi hello fellow psychopath! I maxed out Affinity for every unique Blade EXCEPT Te-elos. The only one of her nodes I'm missing is the "jump a million times" node, because I am not going to sit there and mash B over and over and over. That's stupid. Even I have my limits.

Didn't it? I thought I remembered using the record function for other games at the time, but it not working for XBC2.

Fans began grouping Melia and Nia together just days after XCX2 released, so the fact that developer canon and fan canon appear to be aligning is pretty remarkable

it'd be like, idk, Nintendo making a game about Bowsette

Shitposts aside, I am genuinely excited to see how all these things are connected. There were so many things in 1 and 2 that were very similar, either thematically or narratively or visually, and everyone just chalked it up to either coincidence or the usual repeated patterns you see in sequels

The fact there was some grander plan at work is really cool

I wonder if there is actually going to be a connection to xenoblade X because the fog beasts that were in future connected were oddly similar to the tainted enemies in X in that they were both corrupted enemies that were specifically targeted by Telethia.

I know it doesn’t fit Monolith’s usual M.O., but I hope they don’t entirely rework the battle system again. Torna took everything good about XB2’s system and made it less clunky and just generally better in almost every way. Would be nice to spend more than the ten hours of a DLC with that excellent system.

Revisiting the vanguard mechanic would also mean the four person party from the trailer might potentially be up to 12 switchable characters in battle - which would be insane but could be manageable with a FFVII remake style time slow.

X is just XBC but you can select your skills, overdrive replaces character gimmicks and there's double/triple cooldowns, though. Like it's built on XBC in a similar way that Torna is to XB2. Skells aside.

If they're not gonna acknowledge X the least they can do is take the exploration options from it. The sprint speed, the jump height, no fall damage, the follow ball all this made X's world real fun to explore and smooth to move through.

Also give everyone a sidearm again.

We don't really know if we'll be going back to the 8 artes style or sticking with X2's more limited sets, but if nothing else, character designs can give us a vague idea of what the 6 party members we've got will be good at/focus on.

Noah: Classic hero type, seemingly, and seems more Shulk-y than Rex-y, so I anticipate at least a vague resemblance to his role in combat: Lightly sneaky support attacker/glass cannon with a focus on side and back attacks.
Mio: Given that she looks so much like Nia, it's easy to anticipate her as being a healer.
Eunie: Her weapon looks like a combo of Sharla's rifles and Melia's staffs, so she's probably Ether-based, especially given that she's a High Entia. Remains to be seen if she'll be a glass cannon, a buffer/healer or a combo of the two, but she probably will be ranged.
Taion: That shikigami/paper doll attack thing he doesn't give us a lot to work on. Definitely ranged. Probably Ether-based?
Lonz: He looks a lot like Zeke, he's buff and sturdy and he has a big sword. Physical attacker, probably at least decently bulky.
Sena: She's got a Shield Hammer, so she's probably a tank.

The official website listed out some information about the characters, and a couple had their combat roles listed. Eunie is described as a Healer and Lanz is described as a Tank (he even does the Blade Shield effect thing in the trailer). Sena is described as being Physically Very Strong, but says nothing about her tanking. Talon is a strategist who fights at a range, which could mean a variety of things.

Neither Mio or Noah have their combat roles listed, but you can make a good educated guess about Noah. Mio might end up being more of a Fiora (duel wield DPS) than a Nia though.

Pants Donkey

I really hope they introduce party members in a way that better sets expectations for new players. XC1 and 2 give you a tank and healer as your first two characters which sets up the idea that you need a healer and tank in your party at all times. Which limits experimentation and makes the game feel way slower since your dps is likely to be garbage. Even Future Connected did this with its limited cast.

I get why they do it, but I wish they made more clear that you don’t have to restrict yourself in that manner.

RevolverDivider

I used Sharla for most of 1 and it was a massive mistake, then I fell for it again in 2 until around the midgame once I fully understood how to properly set up good combos. There needs to be a giant red loading screen prompt that says dedicated healers only slow you down
