They came in the 2nd ed starter box, sergeant with chainsword, grunts with bolters or flamers and one with a missile launcher. My first 40k minis. :)

Curious what's problematic with it? Red belts and quilted vests aren't particularly Nazi are they?

There's plenty of space for some dodgy runes and an armband if they really wanted to go full Nazi but this looks more like Commisscrunt rather than Naziscrunt.

For me it's the models stance and the lack of ornamentation kinda makes it lean toward the nazi side of things rather than commissar.

Commissars were morale officers who spent most of their time delivering letters to the troops. Do you see a stack of letters on the model?

The padded vest is a weird flex, but I can see it as an easier thing to green stuff.

but yeah

  1. leather trench coat with flat lapels.
  2. military "at ease" stance (but thats any military really)
  3. the very specific hat associated with the SS
  4. the high knee jack boots

I think that was GW shorthand for a flak vest so you'd know that trying to roll that save vs grenade was just ceremonial.

If they left the leather jacket and made it like a dark green long peacoat, then it would be like Russia officers in WW2. But that is not grimdark enough!

Or replace all commissars with this fancy as gently caress dress uniform from the WH40k page.

Lots of overlap in aesthetic tropes between nazis, commissars, bikers, synth music fans and gay fetish leather daddies (and 40K). It makes calling out bad minis confusing at times.
