Also I had a really dumb dream last night that for the 60th Anniversary special Big Finish got the rights to the Peter Cushing Dr. Who, and the story was him (recast) traveling to the main universe and trying to convince the increasingly unimpressed incarnations of the Doctor of his status.

Ten and Eleven would adore him
Three would feel a nagging sense of familiarity

In the Day of the Doctor novelisation, Ten and Eleven find a tape of one of the films – it’s implied Ian and Barbara sold the rights to a movie studio – and they spend several hours off-screen being incredibly silly about it.

The same novelisation also implies the reason Cushing “appears” in Rogue One is because the Doctor took him for a ride to the future in the TARDIS. :3:

Absolutely crazy that it has been that long. She's almost nearing McCoy's on-air/off-air ratio as the incumbent Doctor.

EDIT: I just noticed that I've been on SA for 10 years tomorrow and Whittaker's been the Doctor for almost half that time???

I developed a lot of opinions about it when I got kids and started having to watch it again. I think there was a long stretch during which the show was pretty bad, mainly when Elmo's World was about 1/3rd of every episode, and unfortunately I have to admit that it got better when HBO got it. I don't want to admit that, it absolutely sucks that a premium cable company is where it airs (even if PBS gets the episodes later), but they really did make it more palatable for both toddlers and the adults who have to sit with them. They definitely ramped up the marketing, though, and the segments often feel like advertisements for themselves, even the good ones like Monster Foodies. They also have a bunch of weird spin-offs like Elmo's talk show and stuff.

Elmo talk show sounds like torture as a kid who loved/loves sesame/muppets but got sick of Elmo during the Elmo's Hellworld era. Had two diff siblings on different sides of the family who loved Elmo, couldn't escape him for a while. I don't really hate Elmo like I did when that toy was going off all the time unasked, but I guess there's some fun to put all your negativity into one cute muppet since everything around it is so loveable. Good to know HBO era has improved even as a double-edged sword of the slow death of public access media. Don't have any kiddos around these days to check in on the street but I appreciated your check-in perspective.

In the UK, Forces TV is having a season of a few classic serials. The first two episodes of Spearhead from Space were on, and Pertwee is instantly such a delight in the role.

Did Big Finish put their prices up? I just got an alert that they were having a big sale on the DW monthly range 151-200 which is great because I have some gaps in that collection... but I went to their site and the "old" price is now twice what it used to be as the "discount" price is the same as what individual titles cost back when I couldn't justify paying the price for them :psyduck:

Edit: No I'm stupid, I just realized that these are sales on the actual physical CDs, not digital downloads :sweatdrop:

They seem to be having a lot of CD sales recently, I guess they want to shift a lot of the old stock. Like last year, it seemed like the Special Edition CD of The Last Adventure was on sale constantly. I only buy digital from them myself (I should really get round to copying the old CDs I have from them tbh).

With Hartnell, Bradley, Hurndall, Purves, Russell and now Noonan (as well as the many stand-ins used), a lot of actors have now played the First Doctor.

They've basically transitioned to one initial run of CD pressings, and once they're gone, they're gone. They even announce when something is going to have an even more limited pressing. I'm pretty sure the 1000 physical copies of "The Box of Delights" was completely sold before release date.

Parts of it were a little janky but overall I really liked that video, and I love that they managed to sneak a silent,"EXCELLENT!" in there :allears:

Big Finish seem to get the "they have completely lost sight of WHY they must survive (they muzzzt!), it's just something they hollowly, relentlessly pursue now" take on the Cybermen that I really dig about them conceptually. I wish the show could pull that off, it seems like such a straightforward and effective way to sell horror, even if the original quasi-Communist boogeyman aspect has long since become redundant.

I know some people criticize BF with the variety of Who spin-offs they do, but I just discovered a comic book company that puts that to shame:

https://www.cutawaycomics.co.uk/order

Comics based on:

Omega
Eldrad (from The Hand of Fear)
Eden (from Nightmare of Eden)
Lytton (from Resurrection of the Daleks & Attack of the Cybermen)
Paradise Towers
Orcini (from Revelation of the Daleks)

They're also doing an audio version of their Omega starring Brian Blessed.

They're exploiting the whole "some creators keep the rights to their characters, so if the Doctor doesn't show up, it's legal" grey area that BBV used to thrive on. A lot of Faction Paradox is basically 'get the rights to what we can, scaffold around what we can't", so same logic.

I'm assuming that they can't use many, if any of the Gallifrey elements aside from Omega, so it'll be interesting to see how they get round that.

Oh that would be awesome. Lego Dimensions ending up being some whole other game that just happened to have Doctor Who related content and you needed to buy merch to actually use the characters AND I think it was console exclusive as well etc was a kick in the teeth.

It was available on all the major consoles, only a handful of mini figures were exclusives. The DW set worked on every system.

It was a local uk newspaper that put out the story saying it was potentially coming, and then followed it up next day with ‘no that’s complete rubbish’ like it wasn’t them who did the initial story.

The Lego Games are my favorite games, so buying Dimensions was a no-brainer, but you can be drat sure the Doctor Who expansion was the first one I bought.

In fact, I bought the expansion before I even had the core game.
