It was one of the preferred multi-cam sitcoms in my household growing up, mostly because it was a little different in that the main characters actually had money problems, and I think there was a full arc about them not being able to have kids.

Hotter Take: Mike & Molly is the pinnacle of fat guy sitcoms and is better written and funnier than King of Queens. The only argument in defense of King of Queens is, of course, Jerry Stiller pbuh.

Seriously give Mike & Molly a shot if you enjoy 2-camera sitcoms. It’s very sweet and funny, and is basically the only show on TV about police I can stomach

Yeah me too but my mom is WFH and she watches TV all day while sewing and Mike & Molly is way raunchier and more heartfelt and silly than I was prepared to give it credit for. They’ve been replaying the first 2 seasons this month and it really just feels like good mid-90’s sitcom quality

That's like saying Larry David is funny because he's a selfish rear end in a top hat. Which is fine, there IS and audience for that. Not me, but somebody.

The best non-Jerry Stiller thing about King of Queens was the time Patton Oswalt stood statue-still for an entire scene to see if anyone would notice (they didn't).

I'd love to ask the guy if the scene is an homage to "going to the store" because I can't imagine it isn't.

Really juicy Patreon update:

quote:

Hey everyone. We're currently editing the next Best of the Worst as well as a new "Mike and Jay Talk About" video for the new-ish Sean Baker movie Red Rocket. The BOTW episode is basically a normal 3 movie episode, but we did add a fun little gimmick to the beginning to pick the movies. And the Red Rocket video was intended to just be a quick recommendation, but we ending up talking a little more than we normally do for a "Talk About" video.

Also, we've recently been going through all our old hard drives to archive everything . Up until now, our videos have been spread across tons and tons of different drives over the years, but now our entire back catalogue has been backed up and archived onto one big NAS server. It was a big undertaking but the point being, we found a couple of old videos that haven't really been seen probably since the Blip days (which means they haven't been seen at all by a lot of you). Nothing amazing, but some fun little one-off videos we kind of forgot about and we'll be posting them here to Patreon soon.

Presumably they backup their video catalogue the same way they back up the tapes. Rich watches them in real time and records them off the tv with a dvd recorder.

I wonder how much storage it is. I imagine it would eat up their entire Patreon take to put it in cloud storage.

Space Kablooey

If I had to guess, I'd say they have probably close to a couple TB now. Also cloud storage is probably also a no-go since they likely have a bunch of copyrighted content, and any cloud provider worth their salt nowadays are pretty strict about that.

Yeah, that would be an interesting figure. I know raw video takes up a lot of space. Backblaze is only $5/TB/month, but that adds up when you have hundreds of videos.

I mean, a consumer cloud storage provider might care about that. But Amazon isn't going around scanning for copyrighted content in S3 buckets (which is what all of those other services are sitting on top of anyways).

Oh yea, that would easily be $2,250/month stored on AWS. (Even if they went with the dirt-cheapest archive-tier, you're looking around at least $1000/month.)
