In 2010 during a brief flirtation with Twitter the MP candidates for my constituency started arguing in reply to my tweet about what a lib-con coalition actually meant, and the lib guy went to pains to tell me their colour was orange and not yellow. I thought at the time that they were trying to differentiate themselves from the SNP but now I realise it was about orange booking.

I also realised that Twitter wasn't for me as I don't want politicians randomly popping up to correct me over the smallest poo poo.

he was dodgy as gently caress based on who was supporting him. corbynism with some professionalism was a great sell and worth remembering something like 40% of labour members didn't even bother voting

It's kinda funny in retrospect how extremely effective the Kier boosting operation was right from the start of him becoming an MP and how obvious it was.
And the corbyn crew had absolutely no answer to it and couldn't even set up a successor

i'm concerned its just gonna be starmer as people hedge their bets, rightfully wary of both corbynism and the labour right. then we're gonna end up with a charisma-less void caretaker and the party doesnt advance in either direction. I guess you could go for worse options considering.

I think even the most pessimistic people about Starmer weren't expecting him to just wholesale dump his pledges almost overnight and totally ratfuck the left after being in Corbyn's cabinet. There really needs to be more scrutiny in the mainstream around how the leader of the opposition only got their position through brazenly and openly lying to their selectorate, and telling the wider electorate they would do it again.

Of course this is all based around the idea that's now firmly cemented in mainstream media that anyone who voted for Corbyn in 2019 or, god forbid, was actually a Labour member, is irredeemable scum whose opinions should be scorned at all times. I'm sure this won't have a corrosive effect on our democracy in any way

Sort of? I mean, I know *why* there isn't more scrutiny on any of this stuff. I'm just screaming into the void that Starmer can go "I openly lied to Labour members, and I will openly lie to the public also" and the main media response is "This is actually good, also Labour members deserved it".
