yea the whole thing is for all the rhetoric of 'we're just doing this to save you' they didn't...need to brain-jack masses of humans, including rando kids and poo poo to do that, they survive just fine without human hosts as long as they get their Cow Slime so it's not like some 'it was for survival' thing. They're Peacemaker, they're traumatized and hurt from a past they probably had no control over and that's sad but that doesn't change that they fuckin killed a lot of innocent randos for their vague 'peace'.

Not-Song's whole last speech laid that out, 'we make the choices you can't', that's not helping humans and keeping us from falling down the same path, that's just patronizing authoritarianism coming from cute bug aliens, just like Peacemaker's old thing was just violent imperialism with a Dove of Peace slapped on it.

Great finale, 10/10 series, can't wait for season 2.

Also loved the Justice League cameo near the end, cute way to make the world feel connected.

Explains it really well. Or maybe you are trolling Khanstant idk.

I'm also shocked when people thought of Starro as sympathetic when he said he was happy floating in the stars. Starro chose to go to Earth after taking control of a ship of astronauts. If he wanted to float in the stars, he could have let himself out. Starro was not going to Earth for peaceful reasons.

Didn't they forcefully capture the smaller Starro then bring it back to Earth then imprison it immediately? It didn't seem to want to be there by choice.

Initially they brought him into the ship and tied him to a wall. Seconds later he let out little Starros and took over the ship. If Starro didn't want to go to Earth, he wouldn't have had the ship go back to Earth. He was fully in control. He got recaptured after getting to Earth.

Ignore my doomerism, I don't think better things are possible
I came into this show not really expecting much. I saw the articles about Gunn promising to make an unskippable intro and thought this guy is just trying too hard, and I’ll watch the intro once and then skip. Even the trailers made it seem like DC trying to piggy back on Deadpool, but I was completely wrong.

This show has been an absolute delight, and is the best live action piece from either Marvel or DC.

Contrasting this story no one asked for but that someone had a story they wanted to tell with Boba Fett’s story a lot of people wanted, but no one had a story to tell is an important lesson going forward for studios.

I do hope we get to a point where we get a Peacemaker and Doom Patrol crossover at some point.

I stand corrected..

BTW in the 1988 DC adaptation of Peacemaker, Christopher's dad was an actual goose-stepping WWII Nazi.. and the ghost haunting him

So him showing up and 'helping' Chris like with the antigrav helmet is kinda canon..

In the original 1967 version of him, Christopher Smith is a polymath / renaissance man who is a master of all weapons and designs the helmets himself..

You can read anything as deep as you want but the oath that she swears in a voiceover montage over peacemaker swearing his oath is like exactly the same as his. they will kill men women and children to achieve to goal of [peace] saving this planet and our race. Chris's oath to "peace" is just simplistic. I guess i am choosing to believe until otherwise that Goff and the scraps of butterflies left can't somehow mutate one of their ranks into a cow and resume their plot, if for no other reason than that if they could change into cows the one wouldn't have been so precious or had a specific deadline. It makes the most sense and is the most interesting version of the plot for Goff to be telling the truth. Chris's response isn't a rejection of Goff, it's a rejection of his own oath. And its supported by him not headshotting Goff, and later feeding Goff while staring contemplatively into the future/horizon

Honestly that was my take away. They might have a supposedly good motive, but they work toward it almost entirely devoid of empathy. They lobotomize children and skullfucked a police precinct because it was the most efficient way to accomplish their goals. They're monsters.

Same. The butterflies (or at least Goff) are definitely intended to be a reflection of Peacemaker.

And Peacemaker's line at the end about why he rejected their vision ("Because they would have hurt you guys") is him expressly going back on his oath to sacrifice whoever he had to for peace. The only reason he thought that way before was because the only person he cared for was already dead.

Flight Bisque posted:

It's a big design flaw, but I think somewhat justified in that Auggie enjoys making things and doesn't give a poo poo about his son. His 'uniform' includes zero protection while Auggie's is head-to-toe armour (apart from the cloth bits!) and Auggie's weapons are clearly way better than what he gives Chris. I think he basically makes the helmets to pass the time and doesn't care much if they're practical or stupidly dangerous.

I think it's possible, within canon, to get more nectar or whatever. Surely there's Gorilla super science, Atlantean tech, or something in the Fortress of Solitude that can replicate it. On the other hand, it's not really that kind of show? I think the butterflies story is over, and everything that needed to be said got said.
