As usual, that got sort of half read and pushed out to include literal paranoid schizophrenia and even stuff like major depression where - no, it actually super negatively impacts you in a way that ADHD wouldn't in a society less focused on clocks and specific work hours and times of focus and such. Obviously ADHD also has other problems it causes and the like, but it would be less necessary in a post Capitalist society. note: I'm not necessarily agreeing with the no-ADHD-under-Socialism people, it's always been more of a 'you aren't bad because your brain doesn't work for Capital' discussion than an actual push to end medication.

I have to take ADHD meds because unmedicated I usually can't do things even if I love doing them.

I agree with you both, I also have ADHD, but the conversation is nuanced and multilayered and depends on the unique specific balance of a person's brain chemistry. It's just like PetraCore said, it's a bigger more in depth conversation than no Capitalism means no meds.

Can I just say (and this isn't at all directed against you Captain Monkey) that one of the most obnoxious things in the world is someone explaining how their own personal political upotian vision will totally help me with my mental health issues? Especially if it's under the guise of "destigmatizing" mental illness. You are not my therapist, you are not my psychiatrist, you do not get to discuss my mental health or lack thereof on my behalf, you condescending rear end.

Luxury Gay Space Communism would help with my mental illness mostly only if it meant I could afford treatment. Not being crushed in a capitalist hellscape would help, but I'm not taking pills for that right now anyways.

Like people whose hair is really kinky or gets frizzy without care would use the word "nappy" to self-describe things happening to their hair. It just happens to be predominantly Black people with that type of hair in America, so it didn't take long for racists to start slinging around "nappy headed" as a half-assed dogwhistle for "Black." I'd still say it's not 100% taboo, but if you're not actually discussing haircare then it's probably a race thing.

I mean, Nappy Roots was a pretty big act not too many years ago. I was unaware that it had ascended from “common term used by the AA community with no baggage” to “slur” just on the basis of that Don Imus thing but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Is it really a word to be avoided though, or are we overreacting? Is it just that that screenshot is suggesting that maybe it’s a word that has racial connotations and therefore isn’t great as an innocuous clue in a crossword puzzle, not necessarily racist connotations? A good rule of thumb is "If someone from a minority group says that a thing you just said/did is racist, your reaction should be something like 'oh, I'm sorry, I'm terribly out of touch with everything outside my privileged life and honestly didn't know that was a thing I should avoid saying/doing, I won't do it again'" and *move on* because it isn't their job to educate you and all you accomplish by quizzing them about it is making them perform educational labor you should do on your own.

I can confirm that NYT-owned Wordle did not allow either "chink" (as in, in one's armour) or "lynch" as of last week when I tried to guess them At first I was like "that's bullshit they're valid words", then I thought "I mean probably don't use them as solutions, but they're valid guesses", which then led to "in which case it was pretty cool of you to let me know they're not in the database before counting my guess, so uh thanks woke gezpacho I guess"
