Yeah definitely not Arabic, and punching the text into Google translate says that it’s Turkish. Good catch.

I saw that posteda few days ago as Turkish forces attacking a SDF position. So if true it's the bad guys almost getting blown up by a missile.

Another good example of this would be cricket and lawyers at least a few years ago in Kenya still wearing wigs. Like going back to cricket I can’t think of a more snobbish and colonial sport short of maybe High School Lacrosse, though the later is more douchey then colonial, you’d think it would go out of style when the British left, but no it’s still hugely popular.

Going to have to defend cricket here, the governing bodies may be all old ex-colonels and old boys but it's actually a very popular sport across society, there's still an awful lot of "village green" type cricket teams out in the sticks. Also just watch a 20/20 game sometime.

I’ve tried a few times, please believe me I’ve tried. It’s a mix of no clue what the hell is going on and trying to understand the rules is super confusing. I guess it’s just that much like the wigs in court, cricket just has a very upper class quality to it, one you don’t even see in soccer or rugby. I guess it’s also that it just strikes me as a super colonial or hoity-toity thing to watch, which I know isn’t the case…but it just has that vibe.

In college I had an 80 year old organic chemistry professor who moved here from India in like 1965 and one day he took like 20 minutes out of a lecture to teach us about cricket and how it was the greatest sport in the world. That dude ruled.

If you ever go to a used bookstore and peruse the 1$ carts you can find a copy because most people don't know who C. L. R. James was and also think cricket is boring. Its a really good book. ughhhh fucked around with this message at 02:11 on Feb 24, 2022 |

I'd wager most cricket is played with a 2 x 4 and a tennis ball with a rubbish bin as a wicket.
