I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

God the cultural/political/military artifacts that the British Empire left in all the countries that they used to rule is just so weird sometimes. Another good example of this would be cricket and lawyers at least a few years ago in Kenya still wearing wigs.

Like going back to cricket I can’t think of a more snobbish and colonial sport short of maybe High School Lacrosse, though the later is more douchey then colonial, you’d think it would go out of style when the British left, but no it’s still hugely popular.

Going to have to defend cricket here, the governing bodies may be all old ex-colonels and old boys but it's actually a very popular sport across society, there's still an awful lot of "village green" type cricket teams out in the sticks.

Also just watch a 20/20 game sometime.

On the other hand class structure was so ingrained into cricket that there was literally a series of games for amateur gentleman vs working class people

I’ve tried a few times, please believe me I’ve tried. It’s a mix of no clue what the hell is going on and trying to understand the rules is super confusing.

I guess it’s just that much like the wigs in court, cricket just has a very upper class quality to it, one you don’t even see in soccer or rugby. I guess it’s also that it just strikes me as a super colonial or hoity-toity thing to watch, which I know isn’t the case…but it just has that vibe.

Probably one of the greatest minds of our time and a hero of mine wrote probably the best book on cricket. Dude was really into cricket.

If you ever go to a used bookstore and peruse the 1$ carts you can find a copy because most people don't know who C. L. R. James was and also think cricket is boring. Its a really good book.

This is a pretty decent summary of Cricket's deal. Worth listening just to learn the psyop poo poo the Australian team gets up to. Also, the book mentioned in the second post above mine is great even if you're not into Cricket .
