The standards for lithium batteries are very strict, and more and more mystery Chinese batteries are compliant. Particularly 18650s. At this point cheaper 18650s are usually just lower capacity than expensive ones, though its still possible to find unprotected cells that don't meet any requirements, so remain cautious.

You just reminded me of a walk I took with my mum after Christmas. We went through some woods used for local school and community groups and they'd obviously done a treasure hunt thing with hiding elves around in the trees. Except they'd never taken them down again, and over the intervening weeks they'd slipped from where they'd been tied to the trees. It was a woodland littered with elf suicides.

My raspberry pi camera came in and works fine. Ordered some metric drill taps for adding threads to 3D printed parts the other day. M3, M4, M5, M6, and M8 taps for $1.57.

Edit: ps if you 'favourite' / follow the store they give you a small discount on all purchases. I just snagged the black drop shorts, so thanks for making me spend more money!

I had a look and the single most expensive thing I have bought off ali was a good working lto-5 tape drive for $393 (AUD), I think I snagged a bargain with that one since the listed price jumped up by something like $100 after I got it, more recently I picked up one of those weird industrial pc boards to toy with for $287 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32783635667.html?spm=a2g0o.9042311.0.0.4a8e4c4darVRoK greedy thing stole all the serial ports.
