Yeah if the diesel particulate filter is clogged due to lots of city driving, short trips, or low quality fuel getting out for a long motorway run will burn that off so can definitely help with PM emissions but won't do much for NOx etc if the engine is otherwise running dirty.

My mostly apolitical mum who gets all her news from the mainstream media is currently besides herself with worry thinking Russia's going to start an actual global nuclear war and let me tell you all these misleading breathless headlines about readiness levels and 'pushing the button' on the BBC are not helping. He's raised Russia's readiness level by one, still miles off critical. He said he'd 'push the button' apparently years ago, admitting it would be a catastrophic thing to have to do.
