Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed shitposting.
Wanbajack used to let you look at any modlist for a particular pack, but functionality has been broken for a while now with no mention of an ETA for getting it back. Probably why a lot of modpacks don't have a full list easily available.

"The power of the Marfalump idea is it's one, simple idea. It's not about Pepsi or Star Wars. It's about a character that loves both."
I haven't played with Wabbajack since June last year (whenever QWEST was still on the launcher), and now that most things have been brought over to AE I've been trying to find a modlist that accomodates the new AE content - from reading through the past dozen pages of the thread it looks like Septimus, Tranquility, Elysium and Licentia are the only ones that do so far. I'm figuring that Tranquility is probably the best 'starter' choice for someone who has way more experience in plugging mods into MO2 than actually playing the game. I do want to try Elysium too but I'm not sure how well it'd run on exactly 6gb of vRAM to throw around.

Are there any good modlists for AE I'm missing? Also, aside from SMEFT which is still 1.5/pre-AE, is there a good Wabbajack install or reccomended mod guide that can act as a decent enough base for adding some of the other things I'd like to try out? Considering how tightly patched most modlists are I'm guessing its better to start from scratch, but I can't say I have any experience with any of them.

So I bought AE during the winter sale and was prepared to just play it straight having next to no experience with Skyrim since its initial release. But let me just look at what kind of mods are out there... And then I tripped and fell down a well for two months. 500+ mods later, I'm nearing the end of my first modplay through and getting bored of this. I might even start a character and play the game proper soon.

Learning about MO2, xEdit, DynDoLOD, and ENBs have been fun challenges. But the last thing to figure out is the merged/bashed patch thing. Is this absolutely necessary? I'm using Open World Loot and it recommended a bashed patch. But OWL came with a lot of patches already for the bigger weapon/item expansions.

Yes. A merged/bashed patch is necessary to make sure all that fancy mod content you’ve added actually ends up in the game in treasure chests and on enemies. It is usually pretty painless, it’s a fairly automated process.

e: to give a bit more detail, the most common thing that a bashed patch is gonna do for highly modded setups is merge changes to levelled lists, which are what determines what content is generated randomly where. lots of mods that add new monsters, randomly generated NPCs, or loot touch these and with 500+ mods I'm betting you have at least two, which means you need a merged/bashed patch.

why? well, like other things with skyrim/bethesda game modding, traditionally the last modification applies. so when you have two mods that modify a levelled list, both of them will change it, but the game by default will only actually take the changes from the second one and overwrite the first set of changes. so if you have Cool Dragons and Angry Anime Girls installed in that order, the game just tosses out Cool Dragon's additions and does the regular stuff + Angry Anime Girls. A merged/bashed patch looks and goes "oh, BOTH mods want to edit this levelled list, so we merge both edits (hence the name) into a new bashed patch" and since the bashed patch is loaded last (with some very rare exceptions, if nothing explicitly says it's an exception you don't have any) then its merged edits apply containing both mods.

My cursory peek into the bashed patch stuff says to use Wrye Bash. But then there is also talk of a Mator Smash tool? Which one is recommended? And do I just need to merge leveled lists or are there a bunch of other record types that need to be merged as well?

Wrye will try to bash like everything. I think common practice is to point it at leveled lists and nothing else.

It's what I do anyways.

either one should be fine if you just do levelled lists. there's valid reasons for looking at merging other stuff but it sounds like you're exhausted and just want to play game (and I don't blame you) so just bash/smash levelled lists.

Always manually check a bashed patch afterwards because it may forward things that you actually don't want forwarding depending on what mods and patches you have installed and it can end up undoing changes that you actually want in effect.

The next movie better not make me shave anything :(

Most of my mod list is working fine, but I crash to desktop whenever a dragon priest comes on the scene. Most of the time, as they are in fixed locations and known characters, Im able to Prid and Disable them just before the loading section to their rooms and just player.additem the gear they would have dropped, with the hardest one to deal with being the mages guild quest to get Magnus's Staff, as I had to advance the quest till it would trigger the mages college states right. Obviously, I'd like to actually fight them, but my attempts to fix this has failed. Using the player.placeatme command to spawn a fresh npc immediately causes a ctd when spawning a dragon priest. Examining my papyrus log isnt telling me anything, I dont know how to parse it and its 1000+ lines long. Started a new game, as soon as I can use my hands, I tried to spawn in a Dragon Priest, CTD.

Any info I can pass on here that would help? I dont wanna just dump logs and mod list without knowing it would help.

Have you looked in xEdit for any conflicts yet? that would be my first place to look to see if there's anything obviously conflicting to cause the crashes.
Have you installed any mods that touch dragon priests in any way? if you have you could try disabling them one by one to see if one of them is the cause.

The Great Twist
I'd look in the data tab of modorganizer and track down the mesh for the dragonpriest npc, if any. That should show you what, if any, mod has the final write on it. Disable it and see what happens.

I think I figured out what I was doing stupid. I was using vortex to download mods, and install them, while using mod organizer to turn them on and off. and skyrim did not like that.

I got two mods that touch dragon priests, but turning off things didnt help and then I realized Vortex was keeping mods I had turned off in Mod organizer installed and on. Im dumb. Fixing that, and trying once again when i get that cleaned up.

I was able to play fine. some mods were not working quite right, like Moonlight Tales was having issues with its howl system, but other than the CTD with dragon priests, it otherwise worked. Reinstalling things, Joy of perspective wants to overwrite a skeleton file, and i think i have my culprit.

Reinstalled everything, all under just MO2, load in, still crash when summoning dragon priests. look in the data/mesh folder, see the dragon priest .nifs in there, delete them, and now it doesnt crash when I summon up a dragon priest. who knows. Now to figure out why moonlight tales howl system isnt working.

Did you by chance get to see what mod was adding the hosed up Dragon Priest mesh with MO2's overwrite features before deleting it? That might have helped identify what's wrong and how to fix it.

Embarrassingly, a total conversion mod called Yiffy age of skyrim. Big rear end mod that made the games various elf races felines and human races canines, and a bunch of Falkreath into deer. gave it all a more cartoony feel. Sadly hosted on Slab, so dont install like shlongs or nudity mods and its fine. Dragon priests were lizards when I got it working once. draugr are mummified dogman zombies. I would imagine the dragon priest thing was a skeleton issue, something with like animal feet or similar cause gotta change those feet, heh. Or a fnis issue, but I ran those a ton of times trying to fix it.

code:
[03/03/2022 - 01:46:57AM] warning: Property MTSE_Armor_Wb_TP013 on script playerwerewolfchangescript attached to PlayerWerewolfQuest (0002BA16) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property
Now this is my current bugbear. I got hundreds of lines like this in my papyrus files, when i change back I got to manually take off a werewolf skin manually as a bit of armor vs an auto unequipped effect and my only howl is the default howl of terror.

Yeah, that sounds about right. There's a lot of stuff on LL that's fairly cutting edge modding, for Skyrim at least, because porn being an industry innovator is a universal constant, but that also gives way to stuff that also tends to break the gently caress out of the game, either through fault of its own or thanks to Bethesda's own lovely programming and implementation.

Thinking about a Pheonix flavour reinstall with a few of my sentimental favorite mods added in. Is that generally the default Wabbajack option or are there others? I like the survival oriented mods but generally don't turn on all the options.

Phoenix flavour uses Simonrim right? Be aware that a big update for Mysticism is going to drop at the end of this week and some patches for it may break, but it should be safe to update mid game. Also updates to Adamant and other mods are going to follow shortly after.
This isn’t to tell you not to install Phoenix but just to let you know what’s coming.

I made it about an hour without just buying a month of nexus. Holy hell that was annoying.

Edit: SSD wasn't quite big enough for the zips as well as the downlads so I had to change the drive the downloaded files were on and I'm afraid it's going to take forever now. It's spent forty minutes on "Hashing archives" which I don't even remember from the first go around, but I'm pretty sure it only took under one minute.
Funny how there's always something.
