Then what is souls combat if all you have to do is roll?? The only difference in combat is Zelda doesn't have iframes, oh and Zelda let's you use a giant fuckoff boomerang that you can throw and combo off your powers with after climbing on the enemy itself. FROM has great mechanics, but we're not gonna act like they make tight fighting systems in this house. They can barely get the hang of lock on camera.

Seems kinda pearl clutchy to be concerned about the optics of the release of advance wars when two decades of continuous wars didn't stop yearly cod releases. I get that this particular war involves white people and Russians so western media is going insane but if you're expecting them to wait until 'a better time' to release a game themed around military stuff that time will never ever come.

What I'm saying is reskin advance wars to be about cats and dogs fighting for my affection, I just wanna pet some heads and rub some bellies.

I'm saying I think they will shelve marketing for it and the game will come out quietly. They already kept their marketing reserved on Pokemon day of all things for the same concern

Hm, that just sounds like you need another Musou. Isn't Fire Emblem Warriors coming out soon?

Or maybe try a beat 'em up. Streets of Rage 4 is fun for that and the Survival mode gets you little upgrades each run (but it doesn't actually stay with you.)

Otherwise... I mean Hades? You get cool upgrades and it's just about beating up people.

Also I guess Diablo somehow.

But really just get another Warriors game since you want even MORE of that (how you finished it is actually pretty incredible since those games have tons of content).

Sorry, I've just started getting into these soul games after a decade plus of hype, and hearing how they're what Zelda should've evolved into. Turns out they're just regular games barely held together by the mechanics. So when I see people talk about Zelda having trash combat, and knowing souls combat is about making sure your armor doesn't weigh you down when you roll, it gets really annoying. Especially when they have such similar combat, but Zelda's is a bit more involved and difficult than they are having no iframes.

Advance Wars is also very cartoony and aren't they going for an aesthetic of toys on a board for the map design this time anyway? It'll be fine I'd hope

Yeah Zelda should not be a Dark Souls game that's ridiculous. Zelda is about exploration and puzzles. Combat is merely a product of its setting.

Dark Souls, and I can only speak for the first one, is heavily geared towards combat and while exploration is present, it's gated by just more combat. On the one hand it's pretty impressive you can do just about anything from the get-go if you're good enough, on the, there are no puzzles to speak of.

But the combat in the game is pretty complex aside from just rolling. I always found it to be rather rhythmic. You have to know the speed of your swings, versus your opponents swings, versus the speed of your rolls, plus the range that things require to actually hit. At its core it's simply pattern recognition, but all the window dressing really makes it feel like you're doing something rather impressive, and it still requires practice, timing, and reflexes. I do appreciate the RPG elements to it too, because you can and will get stronger overtime which is nice in the even you do hit a wall. Grinding won't be enough to actually beat an enemy (well, eventually it would be), but it is just the extra little push that you need if you can't quite hit an enemy hard enough or are getting hit just too often. So the mixing the two while you better learn the pattern is great.

My point is they're very different games that maybe pull from a similar well of inspiration and not everything has to be the same. Both can be good individually of the other. And they are!

also zelda does have iframes lol. the pre-BoTW games gave you huge windows of invincibility while rolling or backflipping and in BoTW you have a very generous flurry rush window that makes you invincible AND gives you a free punish

anyway Elden Ring's "legacy" story dungeons are basically like if you replaced each of the divine beasts with a sprawling dungeon crawl on the level of Hyrule Castle and it's really cool and I hope BoTW2 tries something similar.

Never played those games but Stick It to the Man is a pretty good point and click/adventure style game, pretty funny/charming. I played it on wiiu and really enjoyed it. Looks like it's 80% off at the moment, too.

The Low Road is another point and click, you're a roolie spy in the 1970s. I played through the first chapter and thought it was ok, but didn't follow up

Going through Disco Elysium and it feels like the best point and click game ever, but it's not really old-fashioned I expect.

I'd recommend Night in the Woods for just the feel of that game.

I don’t know it’s fine but it doesn’t do much. I would describe it as fairly generic? Like you say it’s better than most open world but I can’t think of any it’s better than at least not counting the janky ones that don’t work
