This one is loving fascinating to me. Okay, so if the IDF (and thus Israel, somehow) existed during WW2, the IDF would have been big drat heroes and sent in “army units” to stop the Nazis. When? When they first started the camps, which were originally prison/labor camps for political prisoners? After Kristallnacht, when massive incarceration of Jews began (alongside many other populations, but lol at the idea Kirschin would spare a thought about that)? So the IDF would have invaded Germany with “army units” prior to the breakout of war? Or does he mean after, when the Nazi war machine was rolling over country after country with its allies? Does this mean the IDF would just singlehandedly win WW2? What about all the other extremely anti-semitic actions being taken by other countries at the same time? Does the IDF ride to the rescue of all those folks, fighting all those other countries with “army units”?

It’s like a child playing make believe, where his “army unit” action figures ride over all the bad guy toys with a big plastic truck, and then his mom comes in to make him put the toys away and go to bed.

All he is saying is "If the IDF wasn't around at it's full strength, every Jew would immediately be put into camps because they are the only one stopping this."

Based on the signature that seems to be a 7 year old rerun, but it's interesting because a certain other country is comiting war crimes to "stop nazis" right now. My first interpretation of that strip was "You shouldn't blame Russia for breaking a few human rights when their justified battle against the Nazis. The heroic IDF would do the same!"

Oh yes, I know, it's just ridiculous on its face (as is the idea that the IDF is defending against nazis). It's possible, of course, in some theoretical universe where he wasn't the biggest piece of poo poo that the timing of re-running it is coincidental, that he's just using it to whine about people saying Israel being a genocidal, apartheid state is bad, but lol this is Dry Bones and I 100% believe your first interpretation is the right one.

I've been reading the Sinfest twitter thread and it's weird to see how it goes from being "horny is normal" to "horny is actually very bad and even people who are romantically involved should never doing anything beyond cuddling." The politics of the strip seems to be a very weird mix of radical terfism and fundamental christianity. It gets even weirder because God is portrayed as someone who just plays with his puppets while Jesus is portrayed very reverently.

I mean, it is a powerful nation denying the sovereignty of a weaker neighbor, invading with the intent of occupying and subjugating it, and without a care for any war crimes or crimes against humanity that happen in the process, on a paper-thin pretense of self-defense and rooting out dangerous anti-semites. The global response has overwhelmingly been condemnation of the aggressor, and the aggressor has suffered absolutely crippling boycotts, divestments and sanctons.

I can see why that would raise the hackles of at least one demographic who are very much not tankies.

Until he stops his literal war with Ukraine, probably. Until then you'll have to deal with Putin comics, just like the Ukrainians have to deal with Russian missiles destroying their homes. I'm sure the Ukrainians sympathize with your predicament.

One of the most striking things to me has been how early on, there's a lot of trans stuff that really seems like it could be read as the author doing some self-exploration. Like if you archive binged the thing without knowing anything at all about what it (and Ishida) would turn into, there's a period there in the early 2010s where one might start guessing that the author has since come out as trans/genderfluid themself.

Instead, we got... woke trans zombies.

Sinfest actually got printed on paper for a while back in those days, at least in translation; it ran for a bit circa 2005-ish, in one of those comic strip anthology magazines we have in Norway. Can't remember which one, there were/are several. (Each with a selection of strips thought to appeal to a given audience.)

I wonder if, and this could just be me overanalyzing a B-tier webcartoonist's life, but I wonder if part of the problem is that Tatsy was "kinda a feminist" in like the 90s/2000s and treated his dumb poo poo like he had finished the final of Feminism and was now A Feminist, rather than viewing it like it is, which is an ongoing dialog and re-evaluation of his views as the world progresses.
