Oof. I can confess to trying it once and immediately rejecting it as a failed experiment. There's way too much sugar and vinegar, ketchup overpowers almost any topping and even the cheese.

I'm not above using some ready made sauces, arrabiata pesto for example works well enough. The toppings have to work with the sauce in that case, you can't stick like a salty sausage, bacon and olives on top of that without descending into greasy salt-lick territory.

If you can manage to buy ketchup and also cant make your own pizza sauce buy something closer to actual pizza sauce, like a can/jar/tub of pizza sauce.

Tomato sauces are not a big mystery never cracked by humanity, in a pinch you can just dilute some tomato paste with water and add a bit of vinegar and whatever spices and herbs you got.

mmm, A tiny bit of aniseed can work great in bread dough and cardamom can add some lemony/minty flavor to the sauce. Definitely gonna try that next time I make pizza.
