The Ukranians are starting to see that military aid railing in. Meanwhile, the Russians have been reduced to comandeering trucks, vans, and anything else that runs to move troops and equipment. Tbh, Zelensky's counter offer should be "return of Crimea, hand over LPR and DPR puppets for trail" since we're at the totally unreasonable peace offers stage.

Anyway my guess is that Russia semi-softening the demands means either they want to see what Ukraine counters with or try to paint Ukraine as responsible for keeping the war going, which means they no longer believe a total military victory is possible or worth it, which is a big departure from the previous “negotiation” offers. Especially if they want Ukraine to be seen as responsible that would likely be aimed at the domestic audience which means the popularity of the war in Russia might be a factor they’re worried about

Yea, I can't think of any agreement that is going to be agreeable to both parties and secure the sovereignty of Ukraine in perpetuity, because one actor has show itself to be utterly untrustworthy while the current government is in place and the other would rather not be conquered by Russia. Feels like it's gonna be to the knife, and eventually some Ukrainians might get tired of just blowing up soldiers, tanks, and airplanes on the Ukrainian side of the border.
