El Spamo posted:I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up. Did this comic strip seriously just pitch an oscar win to a schmaltzy made for tv cancer movie that got panned (per their own description no less!)? No, the movie was perfect - how could it not be, it was about Lisa, after all. People didn't see it because of The Pandemic, not because of the film's quality, but once it was on Stupid Made-Up Bullshit Version of Netflix suddenly it became appreciated (specifically the actress playing Lisa, who embodied her perfection and her suffering.) See, streaming is just a dumping ground for flops, deals for streaming content aren't booked years in advance at this point and command millions of dollars. And the Academy Awards are based on what people have seen, not multimillion dollar advertising campaigns, gifts from studios and personal loyalties among Hollywood insiders. Also there were only three Best Actress nominees. Which is something that hasn't happened since 1932.

You forget that the actress also found out she had breast cancer because her experience on set reminded her to get screened. This movie saved her life! Please Clap!

I feel very confident we're about to get the "This movie - and Lisa - saved my life" speech with a panel of Les Moore watching it on television and weeping smugly
