Swung in for the grand opening and met his crew and business partner. Took less than 10 minutes for them to offer me a job and I've never felt more like I should run away screaming then in that moment.

I declined the offer.

Doesn't your current job pay way better? Should have said "I'll do it for (current salary +20%)" just to see their jaw drop.

You got out of retail right? When I quit Best Buy I took a massive pay cut and if they'd offered me a 20% increase to stay it wouldn't have been enough (as it stands their response to me leaving after 13 years was "okay, we'll fill your spot"). 10 years later and I'm in such a better position in life.

Try not to look them in the eyes. And try to be still, their sight is based off movements.

Speaking of omnibusii for some reason Amazon just can't understand how they work when it comes to recommendations. Like I read the omnibus of Before the Incal and now my recommendations are full of the various individual trades that the omnibus covers.

A while back Barnes and Noble used to put recommendations on your receipt. I remember when I bought volume 2 of the Strain trilogy, the recommendations were volume 1 of the Strain, volume 3 of the Strain, volume 1 in hardcover, and volume 2 in hardcover.

He lost the rights years ago, he's probably has no say in this matter.

Mr. Goongala?
Elementals has a handful of interesting ideas, like the team becoming increasingly directionless since they’re essentially superpowered zombies, but there are easily a dozen more engaging takes on the Fantastic Four you could run with first.

Rhyno posted:

Seems to be a bit more complicated than that, like there's good probability that the rights reverted to him when Comico went out of business but another guy is claiming to hold the rights(he's got some murky claims on other characters from other creators too) and Bill doesn't really have the time or money to fight him in court over it(not to mention he has no interest in using the characters anymore anyways), so most people are speculating this move is so someone else tries using them and when they get sued it will drag out into the open who truly owns the rights to spite the other guy

You can find the BBC adaptations on youtube and the Death of Superman one was okay. I should try listening to Knightfall sometime.

I don't think Adam West can portray Batman as vicious, so that would be more stunt casting than something that would be effective. But I appreciated the clip. :D

Oh hell yeah, I'm gonna preorder that at my local comic shop. I wonder if they're going to include anything about all the online drama that happened when it was found out he wasn't actually married to Betty Boop. Its a book so they can't include the videos

I only have excellent ideas
My wife has been going into a big nostalgic Star Wars deep dive and that's led me to the current Marvel comics. I think they're by and large quite good, even as someone who until very recently just never really got too invested in the franchise. I don't ever really see them talked about in BSS though, and there definitely doesn't seem to be a dedicated thread.

Is anybody else reading these? If I whipped up an OP would that be appealing to people or would I just be gabbing on to myself about Dr. Aphra?

Edit: Oh! Never mind! I found the thread hidden way back in June 2021.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, but as you've discovered, I think most people (including myself) fell off them after the last relaunch.

There's some good stuff in the early bits, though.

I've read a little bit of the Marvel series, I have not dug into ANY of the IDW stuff just because it's not on the reading order I found. I'll give it a look when I get a chance though, I've been finding the High Republic stuff pretty fun and a neat clean slate. I really like that the Marvel series has two non-binary characters-- still really rare for me to see in mainstream-ish nerd stuff and even though they aren't particularly cool or enthralling characters imo I like seeing that needle budge in terms of just visibility for non-cis folks.

I adored the entire first volume of Dr. Aphra and the first two volumes of Darth Vader, none of the main title really clicked with me until Greg Pak came on. Even Gillen's Star Wars run kind of felt like he was handling the characters too delicately to really say anything interesting. I've really just been blitzing through the three main titles up to the point of ESB and now I'm planning on going back in and reading some of the minis and one shots.

I have already added the Alyssa Wong Dr. Aphra to my pull list just because I could not get enough of the character's whole vibe, but I'm excited for more Pak and Soule stuff in the other main titles (I have no opinion or particular hype about getting to Bounty Hunters).

So far for me the low points were Jason Aaron's entire goofy run, Larocca really not nailing whatever he was trying to do throughout, and a pretty but underwhelming Darth Maul mini I read on a whim last week.

Wong's Aphra has basically jettisoned the emotional core of Gillen and Spurrier's runs in favor of leaning into the bad Indiana Jones vibe. it's still pretty fun, but it's definitely different. also the entire cast is queer but it's not horny in the slightest, which i find both darkly amusing and somewhat of an unintentional commentary on how Disney treats queer characters

I picked up some comics this week as a gift to myself (I’m turning old).

The Parker Martini edition, the Lady Killer library edition, and Plain Janes.

I hadn’t read Plain Janes so I decided to start with that. It’s three stories about a bunch of high school girls who create an art collective. It’s a wonderful little book and I highly recommend it.

Ugh. I feel I'm the one person who can't stand Alec Robbins' humour. It's like he tells the same joke over and over, only he overexplains it and the joke wasn't funny in the first place.

Thanks, that was amazing in every way. I want to gush about the story structure and the use of panels and the clever adaptation of other media forms and pacing and the physical presence of the characters and use of perspective and... well. I think people are better off going in blind.
