HM 20th February New Years Golden Series Night 15 IWGP World Heavyweight Title Kazuchika Okada vs Tetsuya Naito First things first, good match. Right, now that's said, not this was underwhelming. Naito vs Okada & I'm looking at my phone at multiple points because it's just dull. It's that regular New Japan critique really, great finishing stretch, 10 minutes at start that's there only because they feel obligated to go 30 minutes. I hope NJPW gets better whenever crowds are allowed to cheer again

HM 11th February Big Japan Pro Wrestling Ikkitousen Strong Climb Night 9 Kazuki Hashimoto & Kohei Sato vs. Kosuke Sato & Takuya Nomura This is the sort of match that makes me want to watch full shows rather than pick & choose, because on paper this is a nothing match on the undercard of a tournament show, shot on one camera but in execution it's a really simple story executed well. Sato is...well, he's been wrestling 4 years now so he's not exactly a rookie but BJW changes the status quo at a glacial pace (if at all) so he kind of is still. He's an excellent young hand, a bit undersized at 5'7" but he still hits hard. If he puts on a bit more mass & leaves BJW he could be a fun guy. Anyway, he wants to prove to ex-champion Nomura that he can hang with 2 veterans, & obviously he can't because it's puro & guys who are treated like rookies rarely beat grumpy old vets unless they are Jun Akiyama levels of prodigy. Meanwhile, Nomura sometimes comes in & him & Hashimoto have an amazingly stiff kick exchange & maybe all this doesn't sound like much but it's a lot of fun. Sato gets to show a lot of heart while being beaten & headbutted & slammed into a paste. MOTYC: The Usos vs. The New Day, Day One, Jan. 1 I honestly wasn't sure if I'd get a MOTYC out of WWE this year, considering, well, everything, but this was a drat good match deserving of praise. Even if every other single thing sucks the rest of the way, and it is more likely than not that'll be the case, this is worth your time. Very strong performances by two very good teams in front of a legitimately hot crowd.

HM 26th February Ice Ribbon #1182 RE:BORN 2022 ICE×∞ Title Tsukushi Haruka vs Maika Ozaki Quite possibly MOTYC with a proper crowd but the clap crowd really hurt it, which I've mostly gotten used to at this point. Anyway, Haruka is Champion but she's giving up nearly 6 inches & 35lbs to the challenger so it's a pretty classic speed vs power clash, and a really satisfying one of those. Real strong closing stretch.

HM 27th February All Japan Excite Series 2022 Night 6 NEXTREAM (Atsuki Aoyagi & Yuma Aoyagi) vs THE RULE (Ayato Yoshida & Shigehiro Irie) This is on a really fun little AJPW show, Cagematch has the attendance listed at under 150, the show is under 2 hours long on AJPW TV, 6 matches with the core of regulars plus 2 guys from 2AW, Fuminori Abe & AJPW semi-regulars Kodama & Irie. And as soon as I saw this card I instantly gravitated to this match because a) Yoshida doesn't appear in AJPW nearly often enough b) all 4 dudes rule. I expected a HM level match but I think they overdelivered. It's not a barn-burner by any means but it's a really well worked tag team match that covers almost all your bases. Yoshida is your kick guy, Irie is your ball of beef, Atsuki is the young boy who throws in some really well executed high flying, Yuma is still only 26 but is such a well-rounded worker, extremely charismatic & just very smooth as a wrestler. THE RULE are a heel group in 2AW, this match is at 2AW's home arena in Chiba, so Yoshida & Irie do some heel shithousery (especially Ayato, think this is the first heel run of his career, or at least the first I've seen & he's grown into it pretty quickly) but Yuma also get involves in it with some primo shitehousery himself, including doing a simultaneous count with referee Nikkan Lee while his brother was pinning someone, but he counted fast to try & subtly influence Lee to also count faster. So there's really nice wrestling & goofy comedy & kind of a little bit of everything really. But it's also a smaller house show so they definitely don't go all out. But I think if this match had 5 more minutes I'd have gone MOTYC for it. Hell, 3 minutes, just more of a finishing stretch was all it needed. But still really good fun.

MOTYC: Tony Nese v Swerve Strickland, Mar 11 AEW Rampage a real fun match and a great showcase for both of these dudes. wanna see a ton more of swerve already and i want nese to find something to do to get him on tv more definitely on the border of HM-MOTYC for me but there were just a whole bunch of great small spots and character beats that made me really dig it + i really wanna see them have a rematch in the future with how much chemistry they both have
