I hear a pretty strong Jethro Tull influence in the song you linked but the vocalist sounds like he belongs in a bluegrass band. I'd call it prog for lack of a better term, but I don't know if you're going to find much else like that.

McKendree Spring is slightly like this. McKendree Spring has more folk-country influence in them, but they'd occasionally do something out of left field.

looking for more bands like uncle acid and the deadbeats, who are so sabbath it hurts. and yea, i know most of the sabbath copies from the 70s and 80s.

these guys get sabbath melodies and songwriting more than most of the copies. really great stuff. anyone like this is much appreciated.

First, stop into the stoner/doom/sludge thread.

But also listen to Hawkwind, Sir Lord Baltimore, and The Groundhogs for bands making the same sounds around the same time. Then try Earthless and Mos Generator, just randomly picked, for modern Sabbath worship.

Fortunately for you, there's like a million of these traditional doom metal/stoner bands around today, so you're bound to find something for that itch eventually.

Okay. So I listen to a lot of chill step mixes I rip from youtube to work to. Less vocals the better. Usually those mixes are like an hour to two hours, and are great. However, a lot are mixed with songs with a lot of vocals, which is a no go, and also, it seems like Chillstep has kind of cooled off? it seemed really big around 2015-2020. Way less these days, at least of the big videos. It seems like Chillhop has taken over a bit, and while that stuff is fine, I prefer a slightly more upbeat, well, beat if that's possible. But if you have a favorite chill hop artist, I'm down to listen to it too.

So I'm starting to make my own playlists, with tracks I know are voiceless, (or at least, just light female singing without a ton of words is fine too).

So here's my question. I've done some digging, and basically my favorite artist of that genre is Tomas Skyldeberg. Songs like "What surrounds us" are perfect getting going in the morning working to music. So please thread. Send me more recommendations of this stuff, best artists, best Spotify playlists, all of that. For other artist stuff I really like, think Jon Hopkins stuff with Coldplay is perfect." "Light through the veins" is a top 10 song for me, to work to, or anything else really.

I was also going to mention ulrich snauss.

Have you listened to any glitch, or is that too abrasive? I used to really like Pretty Lights for workouts but he’s pretty heavy on soul vocal samples. Gramatik is good, often a bit more chill, and fewer vocals. Big Gigantic is a little more aggressive.

Maybe try the lofi hip hop for studying stations like chilledsacredcow or whatever.

Ooohhhh poo poo I bet you might like El Buho. Extremely chill, South American sounds, lots of indigenous flute, bird sounds, rain sounds, etc. A lot of cumbia rhythms.

Tycho is also supremely laid back but still playing with beats. His discography gets samey as one progresses though, so maybe check out Dive or Awake and call it a day.

Also, give Suzuki from Tosca a spin.

Bonobo is also courts that chill vibe, but he's prone to dropping guest vocalist at least once an album so that could be a non-starter. Boards of Canada's Music has the Right to Children is nigh perfect for me and could scratch your itch as well. Sixteen Oceans by Four Tet might also be in your lane.

I listened to a ton of the stuff on there, generally skipping when something loses my interest, and between that and the stupid / small questions thread I have a small list of songs that I really like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmo5DIktiqI

I absolutely adored this one for reasons I find hard to explain, but I think it's the female lead and the way they hang out in the highs with the singing. They also don't have like a 2 minute intro, it starts up quickly and gets to the point. It's almost like opera? I'd love to hear more stuff like this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXH_9707PLc

This feels a lot more comfortably in what I'm looking for, I really like the way the bass kind of slaps, the lyrics are clear and intelligible, and I really like the content of the song as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5i7qZxICwgQ

I adore this, just this crazy BPM song going nuts for 7 minutes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hWQyHE-q-M

This has a real unique song with it, I have no idea what instruments they're using in the beginning but I latched onto it almost immediately and it drew me in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTAOLmEba4I

I really liked this, though it's hard to articulate why.

Seems to me like you're taking a liking to the subgenre called Power Metal.

As for Nightwish, that song is from their early era, where their music was still relatively stripped down, basically pretty standard power metal but with those operatic/classical vocals, which was quite novel at the time they started. Going forward they've heaped on more orchestrations and bombast and later also some folk instruments. Everything they've done ranges from good to outstanding though, I'd recommend taking a good long look at their discography.

Some other quintessential power metal bands include, but are not (even remotely) limited to:
Blind Guardian
Lost Horizon
Gamma Ray
Kamelot
Unleash the Archers

EDIT: Also, if you ask around more in the Metal Thread, you will get absolutely inundated with more recommendations and suggestions.

Dead When I Found Her flies the Puppy flag proudly, so if you wanted to get into recent electro-industrial you could do worse.

CyberAktif was a one-off side project of Bill Leeb (Front Line Assembl) collaborating with Dwayne Goettel and Cevin Key from Skinny Puppy. I think it had Blixa from Neubaten on it too. Diehard Puppy fans love it. It sounds exactly like an industrial project birthed in 1991.

Images in Vogue are a new wavey band that probably didn't get much fame outside of Canada. They are mostly known for what Key did before Skinny Puppy. I think someone from also ran 90's industrial band NUMB was associated with them as well.

3TEETH is a favorite in the Industrial/EBM thread. They are heavy and enjoy leather.

SNFU were a hardcore band. I only remember them from being on one of the Punk-O-Rama compilations.

Apparently I missed this meme in my early days of the internet, but this album definitely rewarrants a relisten. It seems like everyone focuses on the lyrics and the amateur flow of the lyrics, but there's a lot of interesting stuff going in on his beats(The precursor godfather of cloud rap), and he did it in 2008 and low tech. There's a theme of minimalism and lack of effort behind this album, plus the bass vocals of Viper himself are not unitized fully by being recorded in a closet with puffy shirts, But there is a true authenticity behind the 808 bass drums that is souly lacking in this post Kayne West- landscape of bourgeoisie rap.d

It's a big question with multiple answers.

So, opera stratifies singers very finely. You're not a tenor, you're a dramatic tenor or light lyric tenor, etc. Each group (called a fach) has specific roles they sing. Pavarotti is a full lyric tenor.

Other singers in that fach or adjacent fachs are Matthew Polenzani, Juan Diego Florez (one step lighter), Jonas Kaufmann (one step heavier), Vittorio Grigolo, Piotr Beczala, Alfredo Krause, and Nicolai Gedda. I've met Polenzani and Beczala incidentally, and they're both really great people.

But no one has that huge, rich, golden tone of Pavarotti. Joseph Calleja has a similar golden tone but it's not as big, not as bold, not as rounded.

For operas, you will probably like the bel canto genre, which is what Pavarotti was best known for. This includes operas by Donizetti (who wrote my favorite opera, Lucia di Lammermoor), Bellini, and Rossini. Barber of Seville, l'Elisir d'amore, La fille du regiment, Norma, and La Sonnambula are likely choices.

It's tough to find full length operas with subs online unless you pay for a subscription to the Met Opera Player. I think they have a free trial, and operas there I'd recommend are the Dessay / Calleja Lucia di Lammermoor, the Dessay / Florez Fille du Regiment, and the Netrebko / Villazon La Traviata.

Here's that last one in a non-Met performance (though the same production), but with German subs. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L9x8JJ4_cxc
Even without English subs it's worth watching at least the first act, surely one of the great acts in all opera. One absolutely banger after another. And Netrebko at her most beautiful.
