As garbage as Mookie's handling of Snout's disability and Snout in general has been, I really don't think "curing" him is the way to go here and it's pretty skeevy that this person is pushing that as a fix. Issues like the constant recaps are independent of that anyway, I think even with a hearing, speaking protagonist we'd still get those recaps as filler padding. And that's why I think this is a genuine fan and not someone touching the poop, because I can think of at least five things I'd criticize first over the hearing potion gag, including the current plotline. EDIT: Really, the only thing that'd change in the past few pages if Snout could hear would be everything being encased in speech bubbles instead of text boxes, and the loss of the gag where the paper splashed ink everywhere. You could have Snout think to himself in thought bubbles so he can narrate and summarize on the fly. You could have the bubbles be narration boxes that are excerpts from his journal, implicitly written after the fact. You could ditch narration and have signs, books, and notes be the only text. You could do anything other than what Mookie does, which is, as per his uncanny talent, possibly the worst option available without abandoning the concept altogether.

I'm imagining this in a speech bubble and there is still absolutely no change to the text itself. Anyway, lmfao he really is going there, huh. Like, Christ, I can sorta understand the appeal of a redemption arc involving getting in and out of a nationalist cult. Personally I would hate it, but I suppose it could bring some comfort to someone going through that, like if they're happy their estranged uncle is no longer huffing Q's farts and wants to make amends, but they still don't forgive Uncle after his bigoted spiel during Thanksgiving 2020 so it's gonna take a long time before he's welcome back in their house. But there are few authors I could trust with a story like that, and Moo-"both of the elf sides were wrong"-kie isn't one of them. He's already fumbled it so much by having Arudak's quest of atonement focus solely on his ex who tried to get him out of her life and not, say, the people who his buddies genocided. You know who this reminds me of? Stunt. Stunt and him constantly shifting blame for where his violent misogyny came from. Sure, he ultimately did accept that it was all his own fault, but not before blaming everything and everyone else first, from his Jezebel of a mother and her mistress, to the religion that enforced a patriarchy, to his ex-friend who stoked his already existing prejudices. Between that and him stealing the spotlight from a woman whose redemption arc this was nominally supposed to be, his own redemption rang hollow.

This might matter if the Seku Muat actually, you know, mattered. But they don't, they aren't in the story except as background lore. We haven't seen the effect they have on the world or its' characters, they're a complete non-entity. So this is all meaningless. I will say though, Mookie's lack of planning ahead is hilarious sometimes. Throwing in a quick line about how Araduk's bad back, which was easily cured with a back pain healing potion, was actually a grievous injury he suffered as a result of his brief flirtation with Orc supremacy is beautiful. "Some guys at punch school told me my lunch box was stupid, so I became a Nazi, some plant people got eaten, things burned, my wife died, yada yada yada, long story short I got punched so hard I turned into a grumpy old man".

'People' who collaborate with fascists are fascists. Like I know a lot of Americans on 'both sides' of the aisle struggle with this, but it was something that loving Indiana Jones was able to understand. Elsa is a Nazi, and both the film and literally Indy himself call her as such. It doesn't matter why she's helping the Nazis or that she has some objections to their anti-intellectualism; what matters is that she's helping the Nazis. She is a Nazi.

This guy is a victim and needs hugs ~uwu~? EDIT: Wait, I got more to say. In a D&D game I run, there was once a sizeable NPC faction of defectors from the Evil Empire. I eventually ended up writing them out of the setting because people got apocalyptically horny for them. Like, people I don’t know and who weren’t in the game were drawing and sending me porn of them levels of horny and in horror I realized my mistake. It's such a mealy-mouthed character detail, too. He supported them, so he went to rallies? Wore their sign? Voted for them? Said good things about them on Orc Twitter? Can we get a flashback here? No? Of course not. Because I feel like Mookie realizes he kinda backed into dangerous territory here, Arduak has to still be "a good guy" so he can't have done anything Siegfried-esque, so it's "I thought they had some good ideas, briefly, before they started doing all the racist stuff, no really, but still I'm very sorry about it. And there was this big dramatic confrontation off-panel that was very intense." Like it's clear Mookie never really knew who Arduak was as a character, first he's a villain, then he's just a grump, then he's super soft because he wants to bring his dead wife back, then secret Nazi. He may be the most poorly defined character here and I'm including Corpse Wife who's still just eating crackers now.

After Mookie arbitrarily decided he was a good guy and not a bad guy and he and inkwich butted heads because of a misunderstanding and not a fundamental difference in philosophy, he was designated a Mookie, took off his hood, and Mookie began drawing his face entirely differently to make him look more youthful and softboi. Shortly after this, during the time when they were in a town mookie traced from GIS, when Snout got the earwax removing potion, they also got a backache removing potion for Arudak and from this point forward he stood up straight and looked like any other character. Mookie is now saying that his back injury was a chronic wound from Rhannon. This is new information being slotted in now; you didn't miss it earlier.
