You *can* still get commercial-quality upright vacuum cleaners with the fabric bag and all, but I don't think Ed is working nights as an office cleaner.

Of course it's new, he clearly remembers buying it just two days before Dustin was born.

Yeah, if your complaint is that the supposedly-new vaccuum shouldn't need repairing that soon, take it up with the manufacturer, not the repair center.

I'm guessing Lucy did it, because if erasable pens were the same in 1979 as they were in the 90s, they rub off when the ink is dry.

This also reminds me of how my fifth grade teacher required math homework to be done in pencil so you could erase mistakes, and yelled at me once for using an erasable pen. I preferred the pen because it erased cleanly without smudging the way pencil graphite can, but when I tried to explain this I learned the truth - the real rule was to obey unquestioningly and never think for yourself. Now I'm mad about things that happened thirty years ago, thanks a lot Encyclopedia! :cloud:

I'm old enough to remember when erasable ink pens were an amazing new thing, which would have been around this time. So yeah, that's probably it.

That said, it's still a goofy way to put it, because with ballpoint pens there's no "the ink is still wet, don't touch it" stage. I suspect the writer was old enough to think kids still did their homework with fountain pens.
