Stultus Maximus posted:It's just the dumbest goddamn thing. Hey, instead of shifting regular work and school hours to better fit the dark/light cycle, let's just redefine "noon." Shifting school and work hours only works if everyone does it and does it on the same date. If only there were some kind of overarching governing structure that could organize this. Ah, well, nevermind.

ded posted:anti diver net That's just an oil boom. NLON doesn't have anti-diver nets around the individual boats. Virginia's don't leak much oil but it's still a good idea to have an oil boom in case a hose ruptures when you're pumping non-oilys and there's a bit of a sheen. W/R/T the NFO tank, when I was up there we had to offload and onload the whole thing because we got contaminated diesel, which the boom is useful for. Normally NFO isn't going to leak though, and the Cats on 774's don't have a bunch of unburnt diesel in the Diesel Juice like previous classes do.

My physics is really rusty, but they're probably only visible via infrared because of how much the light has redshifted. While the actual image is going to be b&w, I think they've deliberately colored it in the manner they have to emphasize said shift.

Anyone got a link from NASA or similar source that the background galaxies are new discoveries?
