Mobile Truck Base may be a nice compromise for fast travel. It only goes to certain spots and you have to be at the truck to drive to the next place. It was my favorite player home in my last run of FNV. There are a couple of ports to TTW, including one to 3.2: Mobile Truck Base - TTW 3.2

Which mod is adding sights to energy guns? Wish we had a simple no-frills mod that did it in FNV proper.

I played with MTB last playthrough, and though I loved the concept, by the time I got the truck, the fuel was a pretty trivial cost. It would not be trivial in my current playthrough, but I'm hesitant about using a mod not tested or made for 3.3. TTW is a little less tolerant of random mods.

The sights are a base TTW feature. I think they've said it'll eventually get a standalone release, but afaik not yet.

My experience with Fallout 3 companions when jumping on with the GOTY edition:

Fawkes and Dogmeat = literally invulnerable.

Everyone else = dying from fall damage during my very smart adventure trying to climb up broken highways.

That same HP scaling bug makes RL-3 virtually invincible. That plus invinco Dogmeat not caring about your karma, no regulators or talon company ever, and access to Impartial Mediation make neutral karma runs weirdly OP in 3.

I bet they're all afraid of Todd. Every single game developer in the industry fears Todd.

GTAIV deserves praise for just how convoluted the plot is. Trying to tie everything together on your first playthrough is almost impossible, but going back and tracking the Heroin and the Diamonds that both arrived with Niko on the ship is great fun

Even then, I'd still pick MGS4 from that bunch.

NikkolasKing

I'd pick GTA4, although I know nothing about FC2 or Braid.

GTA4 was Rockstar at least trying to tell a more mature and emotional story about vengeance, about starting over, about finding hope even when everything is going wrong. I respect the effort of turning this goofball murder simulator into something more profound and thoughtful, even if it was an inexperienced effort.

Niko is certainly the only GTA protagonist I ever think twice about as an actual character.

GTA games don't have a story or characters so much as some cutscenes for missions that act like you already know these characters that are being introduced. GTA4 was also the start of Rockstar making more "cinematic" by making it so that you autofail missions if you try to do anything different besides what they tell you. It's like linear storygame missions poorly bolted on top of an open world without much interaction between the two.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the GTA4 devs put about as much fun into the driving as Fallout devs do. (hyuk)

I think they had it tuned to realism but just killed all of the fun. That's what most of my personal anecdotes are anyways. Nobody likes driving in this game about driving.

San Andreas was the last one that I genuinely had fun with, which is probably why I stopped buying them after 4.

Wait, no, it was Chinatown Wars, that one went back to top down and cartoony so the paper-thin characters and plot didn't matter. I loved doing drug deals in that game, if only it was that easy IRL.

Yes. As part of their effort to make the world seem more lived in, Fallout 3 simulates the traders going from each settlement, so that you can meet them while they're going along their travels. Unfortunately, what this usually means is that when you get close enough to where the caravaners are roughly supposed to be, they spawn into the map, and will subsequently get murdered by whatever enemies also happened to spawn in the vicinity. It's ultimately a neat idea with fundamentally flawed execution.

It is also extremely likely for the quest givers and everyone at the Temple of the Union to die in a similar fashion. Specifically to of all things a giant albino radscorpion dropping from the sky in the middle of the Temple, it's nearly always exactly that.
