I don't recall S3 of GLOW being super sappy or too dramatic or anything like that, there was less of the wrestling show but I think that may have been an issue of the long wait meant the actors were not in as much condition to get thrown around.

A shitty post? This calls for a dance of deduction.
I apologize about the large image before. Was phone posting and didn't realize the image was that big.

Also, if what the person said is true, then I was correct that HBO Max and Hulu top hitters aren't anywhere near as big as even Netflix's A-tier list (let alone S-tier).

This is probably a large reason of Netflix's perceived decline. A lot of their most renowned shows were things that would never have gotten greenlit anywhere else.

- An adult animated cartoon targeted toward middle aged adults about a washed up 50 something year old 90's family sitcom star with depression and addiction issues in a world where anthropomorphic animals and humans live together? And the main character is a horse?

- Why take another shot on this trashy female novel that bombed on network television? It's about a stalker who is obsessed with his crushes as he charms his way into their lives and kills everyone around them. It's too dark and violent for women and too romantic and girly for men.

- So let me get this straight, you want to make a series about those '80s E.T. movie rip-offs, but violence and swearing in it so kids can't watch it, but still have kids star in it so parents won't relate to it?

- Okay...just wait one second, you want not only a high production adult animated series, but one that is: 2D, based on a niche abandoned video game franchise, and action focused with little to no comedy?

- Who on Earth will want to watch a 10 episode, 10 hour documentary? I know that crime content is "in", but documentaries rarely are. I mean Michael Moore is the peak of documentary success and has only had two "big hit" documentaries.

A lot of Netflix's best stuff was new and unique programming that was rarely if ever done before. In just ten short years they've managed to revolutionize the television medium in several genres. They showed the world why streaming was the future not just because of convivence, but because it's business model was infinitely better for the consumer as it allows for more risk taking from the creator's side.

It feels that Netflix has gotten a lot more boring and safe with what they have been putting out the past two years. I consider the cancellation of "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" to be the turning point as that was the last high production show Netflix made that was really "out there" in concept.

The said thing is, by far the service's most popular and influential show in not only recent years, but ever, was: "So let me understand this correctly. You want to invest in a big budget, foreign film with strong anti-capitalist themes, with virtually zero white actors, and virtually zero English spoken, and try to see if this will appeal to the modern polarized world, let alone the United States?"

I agree. There was less wrestling than before.

I was impressed by Awesome Kong's incredible acting.

However, one scene in the season sticks out to me with how bad it is:

It's during when the Cambodian woman and the Jewish woman have a rift due to how the latter was portraying Asian culture, but they end up bonding due to genocide.

"ThE kILliNg FiELDs!" scene had such awkward delivery.

Not to mention the message is terrible. Please forgive me for doing a racist caricature , because my grandma died in a genocide. Since virtually all of your immediate family died in a genocide, this makes us relatable so...yeah let it slide.

Just finished watching "Hail, Cesar" and man the film was kind of...bad.

The plot was dumb and non-sensical.

And for some reason Hollywood gives the dumbest portrayals of socialists/communists as they show they don't even understand very basic points of the philosophy.

Finally, I realize that there was controversy over the film for lacking minority roles. I thought it was stupid when I first hear it because OF COURSE Hollywood circa 1950s would be insanely white.

But the fact that the film lacked a single person of color besides an arguably white passing character for a total of five minutes is...distracting.

Like even out and about in Los Angeles I didn't see a single non-Anglo person.

I noticed there is a big discrepancy between what critics rated this film and filmgoers, and this is a case where filmgoers had it correct.

In 2020, we're going to make the end of Fight Club real.
Fresh on Hulu is a riot.

Don’t really have much to say about it except that it’s in the same vein as (the superior) Promising Young Woman. I.e., Fresh takes the premise “dating!” and the thesis “men are trash” (in the most played out, rosé-all-day Twitter sense), and then somehow it has its own voice and not a grating one.

My girlfriend had some minor visceral reactions to the body horror elements, but not nearly as strongly as she did to Possessor which she couldn’t finish. So to some degree I think it succeeded in making those kinds of horror / thriller elements more accessible for a wider audience, which is an achievement. A less charitable take could be that it was watered down, though I never felt that way.

Won’t be recommending it to my mom though, lol.

Watching Wild Wild Country is interesting. In all the sort of clickbait/podcast takes I'd heard about this story before it was made into a doc, it was all about this WACKY POWER-HUNGRY EVIL CULT but the real villains revealed are psychopathic arrogant white Americans and their media. "THEY'RE BRINGING IN 'STREET PEOPLE'!! AND FEEDING THEM!!! WE NEED TO BOMB THEM!!"
the absolute ARROGANCE to act like they have a centimeter of room to cry about "seperation of church and state". As if they'd give a gently caress if this were a bunch of Methodists and not SCARY EASTERN THING WITH HOMELESS PEOPLE!! The attorney general literally describes his mission to defend the seperation of church and state from these people as "a mission from god" lmao you cant make that poo poo up
And it also reveals how willing these white people are to bend the law or change the law to support the outcomes they want, all their laws and imbecilic talk of DEMOCRACY and CONSTITUTION are just a pretense to get the white supremacist psycho outcomes they want. They're fine with Utah just basically being a sovereign Mormon state, they're fine with their own churches having a strangehold over our politics.
It's like the people scaremongering about SHARIA LAW while they're literally the white Christian Taliban.

I watched the first episode of “Is it cake” and while the people on it are talented it’s kind of BS as a game show. The first guy literally won by what I would call cheating and…no one cares. Also the whole thing hinges on showing the audience and judges the creations from 20 feet away which is kind of frustrating to watch lol.
