The shark kept trying to bite the hippo's sides but the hippo was too fat and thick-skinned and the hippo just ignored it. So it bit the hippo's tail off and then the hippo- presumably pissed because it couldn't spray poo poo anymore and turn and bit the shark in half then trundled off to find a snack. I'm also kind of skeptical that hippos kill more than something like a venomous snake because people don't really come into contact with hippos all that often because there just aren't going to be a lot of them in the same spots as humans.
