Butterfly Valley posted:Wtf is peanut butter for dogs, lmao if as I expect its just 100% peanut butter which is the only kind of peanut butter that should exist anyway Unfortunately there are some peanut butters out there, usually low-calorie or sugar free versions, that use xylitol as a sweetener, which is toxic to dogs. It also now gets listed as "birch sugar" or "birch sap" because the word xylitol is scary, I guess? Most regular peanut butters don't use it, but also a lot of them use oils that probably aren't great for dogs either. So some pet stores sell "dog peanut butter" that I guess is meant to be largely safe and healthy-ish for dogs.

Yeah my point is that it's funny that we can market something as healthy for dogs by removing all the bad oils and sugar replacements and whatever while still selling the poo poo additive laced version to humans. 100% peanut peanut butter should be all you can get, there's no need for anything else to exist other than capitalism I guess

Surprisingly enough, dogs and humans have very different digestive systems and nutritional needs. Humans need a certain amount of lipids and sugars in their diets to survive or your body will literally start falling apart. Dogs, however, are usually much smaller than people, and don't need nearly the same amounts of things that we do, so something that's just mildly sweet and salty for us is overpoweringly sweet and salty for a dog and could do lasting harm in much, much smaller doses.

Safari Disco Lion posted:Yeah try throwing a bunch of peanuts into a blender and see how that goes and tastes. This tastes awesome and I don't know why you'd think it wouldn't. Use a food processor rather than a blender, and roasted peanuts instead of raw, and add a little salt, it's better than most peanut butters you can buy. What do you think the good, expensive peanut butters are doing that is different from grinding up peanuts? The flavor in good peanut butter comes from peanut oil. Cheap peanut butters press the peanut oil out first to sell, and replace it with cheaper oils like soybean and palm. The resulting paste tastes like nothing so they add sugar to make it palatable, but natural peanut butter doesn't need sugar, it already tastes like peanuts.

I gave my tortoise a cherry tomato today and it was like watching a tiny animal taking a bong hit for the first time. After he was finished, he went and stared at the wall for an hour. He also thinks he can fly. You pick him up and move him then he spends a good few minutes after flapping his front legs like they are wings.

Blackula Vs. Tarantula posted:What do you think the good, expensive peanut butters are doing that is different from grinding up peanuts? Even the expensive, good peanut butters add a small amount of sugar to them. It may not show on the list of ingredients because it's a small enough amount per serving size that, legally, they do not have to list it, but they still list at least 1 gram of sugar per serving. And you still have to add some salt for flavor. So the whole "100% peanuts and peanuts only" thing is just dumb no matter what angle you try and justify it from.

I believe you're confusing this with the quantities of nutrients which can sometimes be rounded down to zero.

Ok but I have literally made it in a food processor without adding sugar, it's delicious, try it if you end up with 40 pounds of free peanuts some day (boring story). Some cuteness to make up for my peanut evangelism: I'm a special education aid in a first grade class, and I saw a girl pass a note during a spelling test. I thought "are they cheating? C'mon, they know better" so I looked at the note and it just said "hi" And if that story isn't cute enough here is a silly duck https://imgur.com/a/TBRwhNU I have no idea how to embed the silly duck

Azhais posted:https://i.imgur.com/wBa3WDS.mp4 That’s a positive cat sound, at least. I think that is a specific kind of trill calling baby cats. When Hans and Frans were babies, their mom had trill that meant,” okay kids, nap time is over, time to gather for baths.” It started with a soft trill, wait a few seconds, slightly louder trill, wait a few seconds more, loud trill ending with a guttural yowl. The kittens generally took naps apart from every other kitten at this point in their lives. She couldn’t just go up to a central location to wake them up for bath and potty time.
