I don't remember if he was gay or not, but I do remember that when he was older he had to take pictures of a car crash, and the victim was his high school sweetheart, who died. In the comic, she survived, and they get married.

Here, this should do the trick: https://pastebin.com/HWem5pHn If the present day gets out of sync with where you're at (due to skipping past a strip with a busted image file, or missing a day of posting, or whatever the case may be), just change the "8012 days ago" bit in the three lines at the top up or down as needed.

Back when she was redoing the strip from the very beginning before her syndicate got wise and stopped paying her to do it she made it so Michael and his future wife were in the same school since like kindergarten and was treating the whole thing like a fated romance from destiny and I'm realizing how hosed up that was and how awful her actual son must've felt as I type this
