That's unironically what I want from miniatures, but I'm too bad at everything to do it.

It would be really weird if they had an event to show off the new rules and new box and didn't take preorders/sell the box that same day. And by weird I mean that I can't imagine GW arranging anything so they can't immediately get money after hyping up event attendees.

BULBASAUR posted:Thanks for posting, but its likely a fake Yeah, the original poster (on Reddit or whatever) is apparently known for blasting out pretty "low-risk" guesses and still getting things wrong more often than not. Also, a Spartan kit for the same amount as the current highest-cost Land Raider kit has like a zero percent chance of being real.

Like any normal dude I abandoned all responsibilities to spend this week pouring over the new rules. I've digested probably 3/4s of the ruleset so I wanted to share how it feels this edition is shaping out to be. While these are playtest rules, they're latestage and likely not very different from what's being printed somewhere right now."A huge autist" posted:I've been playing since Book 1. This new edition will feel familiar to longtime players, but underneath it's a major rework. What we have is closer to a new game than an incremental change. You can feel the influence of more recent specialist games with tighter, more deliberate rules, and less traps or erroneous wargear options. I'm sure everyone can find something they wish was different, but overall what I'm seeing is quite good and an exciting new direction for 30k. I get the feeling this new edition will open up favoring large diverse units of infantry and direct fire weapons. Infantry are more survivable than ever, and they're cheap. There's a big emphasis on attrition now, either through the importance of leadership or the multitude of mechanics that rend, shred, sunder, or breach their way past your armor saves. Battles should feel more like gritty slug fests where you're wearing down each other rather than removing models while standing around with a beer. With how reserves work, you'll see bigger more meaningful shifts to a battle once or twice a game instead of a harassment from enemy units deepstriking anywhere throughout the entire game. Reactions are also really important, so finding out when and how to use yours, with the army you build, will be a big part of figuring out the new game. 1500pts in the new edition feels closer to 1850 today. Combined with the completely new unit and equipment meta? We'll, its all very new and exciting. 1000 words to say, the rules look good folks BULBASAUR fucked around with this message at 22:26 on Mar 31, 2022 |

My only concern is the missing units - I didn't like it with 8th and I don't like it here. It makes zero sense because while it doesn't stop GW releasing a kit later, it means having to have rules spread across more books which always kills the vibe for me. That and I've spent more money making something like Iron Havocs look distinct from Heavies than a single box would likely cost, so dissuading the hobby aspect (which 30K was clearly leading for a long time now) is really annoying.

Ever since GW lost a court case against a third party manufacturer that was making a model for rules they themselves hadn’t made one for yet, they’ve been allergic to releasing rules without a model to go with them. It set a precedent where you can’t claim copyright for something in the UK unless there’s an actual physically existing thing. Still sucks but at least there’s a dumb reason.

Hard not to agree, its one of the worst parts about this coming from a Big English Corporation. That court case also blew the dam on 3rd party bits manufacturing. People made fun of them at the time, but in that respect chapterhouse did a big thing for the community by showing in court you could protect a bits company from predation by GW legal. Now with 3D printing they have no hope really.

Played a couple games of 2.0 today, here are some initial thoughts. I played Sons of Horus in both games, with a Black Reaving list that included a Praetor, a Master of Signal, a squad of Justaerin, a Tactical Squad, and a Despoiler Squad. The Praetor was with the Justaerin, and basically fine. He had a Paragon Blade and carved up some guys in the first game against Night Lords (I lost), but didn't really do much in my second game against Emperor's Children (I barely won). The Master of Signals is pretty bonkers for being a 35 point upgrade. Being able to test off his leadership once per turn is nanners. Strategic Comms is a nice upgrade and this guy easily paid for himself in both games. The Justaerin will have to be handled in every game, they are total beefcakes, they put out a lot of damage with the combi-banestrike bolters, and their axes having Rending (4+) helps put them over the top. For 300 points though they better be brick shithouses. Black Reaving giving them Deep Strike coupled with the Master of Signals made bringing them on basically a sure thing. The Despoilers were totally pointless in both games. I was hoping to use them to turn on Rage for the Justaerin but it just didn't work out. They simply did not match up against the 2W assault units - Night Raptors and Palatine Blades - they were facing. On the flip side the Tac Squad with a vexilla were extremely resilient and useful in both games. With the Master of Signals attached they were outputting a lot of firepower with Fury of the Legion activating in every game. My original list was 30 Tactical Marines but I left some of those models at home so I had to sub in the Despoilers. I liked the Reaction system, I'm not sure anybody turned on Return Fire but I know the others got turned on, as did everyone's special reactions and Interceptor. It introduced a nice push and pull to each turn. The Legion-specific reactions were great, the Emperor's Children player used hers to absolutely dunk on my Despoilers, and I turned on Death Dealer to good effect in both games. Hixson went ape for his, using The Better Part of Valour to set up some big league dunkings. Something interesting we found was that the Dreadnought Close Combat weapon has been reduced to merely being S8, meaning that Dreadnoughts can't double out Justaerin or any multi-wound Sons of Horus models. Hixson's Contemptor was a bit of a bust in general it seemed, in part because of this. Hixson had his Warlord with an Assault Squad and took the Warlord Trait that allows you to reroll failed Dangerous Terrain checks, which came up every turn since we were playing Zone Mortalis and saved him from losing several models. Jump Packs make you move far now, the mobility was definitely a clear bonus and directly led to him winning our game. Salynne's Emperor's Children gave me a run for my money, her Phoenix Terminators and Palatine Blades were basically unkillable in melee thanks to their Perfect Defense, which ground down my Justaerin over the course of several turns. I wound up eking out a victory after losing a combat with my Tactical Squad thanks to my Vexilla only forcing me to retreat 2". Outflank is pretty lame now. It's very easy to counter-deploy against and if you gently caress up the deployment thing you wind up in a corner. Deep Strike is much stronger. panascope fucked around with this message at 06:57 on Apr 3, 2022 |

There's pictures floating around from old books where they're clearly in the MK VI armor but they don't show depth real well so it just looks like a flat faceplate with a skull painted on.

Quick question, any idea if they upscaled the new plastic beakies? Think they might be a tall as at least the new 40k chaos figures?
