one of my least favorite things about sa is how many people are unable to say anything earnest without needing to insert weird poo poo so people don't make fun of them for being earnest

like, my dude, if you know the obsessed-with-a-wrestler gimmick is old and tired and people don't like it maybe you can just drop it and post normally? especially when it brings down what would otherwise be a good post?

The worst kind of tornado.

how dare somebody performatively dislike a wrestler, now to get back to weighing the dimly remembered past transgressions of Buff Bagwell (or somehow Tommy Dreamer) against recent tweets.

I mean yes but also sa specifically had an awful track record on treating people speaking genuinely about themselves and how they feel, and the website certainly was holding onto that problem a good while after most of the rest of the internet started being okay with things like 'being gay openly.' helldump died a deserved death but people really held onto that energy for as long as they could and I personally know a good handful of people who stopped using sa entirely because of all the lovely posting games people would play

thankfully the site's started to get better in recent years. turns out it's much more fun to have discussions about something when people don't start off on the defensive about openly caring about something, and it gets even better when you can start assuming that the thing someone else keeps talking about is something they actually feel strongly about + not a localized extended social experiment or w/e

Buff is doing the whole DDP house rehab thing, so yeah he got sober and he's interacting with fans online as part of it. Not sure exactly how wise that last part is, but he seems to be keeping it positive.

I think I remember seeing clips of Jake Roberts at DDP's house and there were prescribed times a day where he'd sit at the kitchen table and respond to fans. Done well, it's a lot of positive encouragement and a way to feel less isolated.
