I like the atgeirs in the plains - the secondary attack knock back is sweet. It's easy to get out of position or swarmed in a way that's hard to recover from, though. One tip - bind the dodge roll to a key so you can reposition well (I forget if it's in the keybinds or if you have to macro it somehow, I play on a razer gamepad thing and a mouse).

Fulings are weak to sneak damage, stabbing knife is the plains weapon of choice.

Grounded has an arachnophobia setting that turns the spiders into less spider like enemies. Maybe valheim will have something similar.

I think it's really unlikely that it will on release of the mistlands update, though adding that sort of accessibility setting in the future seems more likely. Eta - there'll be mods though, for sure.

I wonder if Valheim spiders will be as nightmarish as Grounded spiders. I can still vividly recall having a wolf spider sneak up behind me in what should have been a pretty safe area in Grounded. I actually shrieked when I turned around it was about to pounce on me.

It looks like Loki's name is possibly derived from the Swedish word for cobwebs. It would be cool if we see Loki watching us in the mistlands the way Odin does sometimes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loki#Etymology_and_alternative_names

Odin's horse Sleipnir is also an 8 legged horse, that's spider-adjacent at least.

The wolf spiders still are one of the most fright inducing mobs in any game I've ever played. The only comparable moment for me is (red dead redemption 2 spoiler) that cabin with a bear that immediately goes for your throat upon entering

In case someone else missed this you can drain tar pools and find more tar underneath. I went at least a month or two without realizing you could do that.

I'm in the swamp stage of my second playthrough after putting the game down a few months before Hearth & Home. The iron grind is still very real :negative:

Abominations are annoying shits. I want them to follow me to fuling spawns but a tree got in their way so they hosed off to the ocean??? I made a hat for the poison resist but I can't get enough for the rest of the suit because they get bored and leave.

Abominations have also made me realize that some weak arrows are the only way for the player to directly cause fire damage out in the wild? Every other damage type has a higher DPS source for the player to use. Now I want a fire sword or some kind of burning mace or something :black101: + :flame:

I think at iron (maybe even upgraded bronze) you should be able to parry both of their attacks and go to town with an axe while they're stunned. Like with trolls, though, it's pretty risky because you can't mistime your blocks more than once or twice without having to make a corpse run.

Ah jeez yeah, just tried that, they're really easy to kill. Not sure why I didn't try that.

I am greatful for my loop pedal
Weve finally got a great modded and upgraded world of our original seed going and its breathed a ton of new life into this game.

Epic Loot, the mods that add new tiers to biomes of gear, enemies, bosses, mini bosses and mats and a bunch of cosmetic and QoL mods to add more reasons to farm materials have really added some new complexity to the game loop and its been a blast so far.

Im excited to see what Iron Gate does officially because these mods all together have really shown how layered the potential is for this game and I hope theyve taken a lot of the modding work into consideration for where they can take it.

Epic Loot has a bug when interacting with the trader, at least for me. Can't sell items because the button is covered by Epic Loots bounties window.

Otherwise it's a fantastic mod.

Has anyone found a good use for the werewolf armor? The speed boost is really nice, but the lack of armor makes it a deathtrap in the higher biomes, at least for me, because I am not good at videogames. Also the fact that finding caves is a huge pain so it's hard to find enough hair to upgrade fully. Seems like it would work well for farming materials in the lower biomes but I don't know what else.

They really do show how much growth the game could have, also makes it hard to go back to playing without them lol

After being told they're easy to parry I haven't had a problem with them. They only run away when you try to kite them with fire arrows. I'm guessing if they can't find a path through the trees they default to loving off

The slightest touch from a Gol-Shogeg will result in Instant Death!
I think they also get scared of the fire.

Parry-smacking them feels super risky, but is a lot less so than doing the same thing with trolls, given that aboms are much slower, and it's trivial in most swamps to get to a place they can't reach you, by climbing up onto one of the big invulnerable falen trees.

Just watch out for getting snuck up on by starred Draugr.

For me it is essentially a straight upgrade from troll armor. Rag->leather->troll was the entire light armor set while heavy was bronze ->iron->silver->padded. Now they've added root and wolf. I do a-okay with the lighter armor in higher biomes but fuling villages still take some planning/sniping.

I feel like I've fought a bunch of abominations yet only had enough material to craft, like, a mask. The tediousness of fighting enough of them to max out a set of the root armor seems unthinkable.

You should be able to craft a mask after killing two - they drop 5 roots each, and each armour piece uses 10. Can't remember about the upgrades.

I killed enough to level a full set in our group world and it didn't take too long, it mostly happened incidentally whilst we were grinding iron.

Fuling villages get a bit easier if there are tar pits nearby, you can kite those tar monsters quite a ways, and it's fun to watch them duke it out. Also helps clear the tar pits so you can dig them out.

The upgrades are cheap, but also if you're in the swamp much it'll just build up over time anyway. The resist to piercing from the harnesk is really useful, and having always on poison resist is almost a must in the swamp.

The ocean is calling and I must go

I've gotten two fully upgraded sets of the armor and another regular chest full of roots just from mining iron, so you'll end up with more than you need just from running around doing stuff in the swamp.

I really love the abomination trophies; they're really pretty decorations.

The poison resist isn't as strong as the mead though. That's important to know.

Nordick
Sep 3, 2011

Yes.
Yeah, I still think the poison resist mask is more of a convenience than something essential. Basically it just saves you an inventory slot and whatever little bit of effort it takes to keep some mead with you. Meanwhile the pierce resist is something you can't really have otherwise at that point, and starred Draugr archers sneaking up on you are probably the bigger hazard anyways.

Of course, I still wear the mask a lot because I do love me some convenience.
