Gonna say this for anyone else interested in the above article: BIG CW for talk of child and sexual abuse (on someone asleep) along with graphic depiction of retaliation.

There was a wonderful self-own of an article that was posted back in 2014/2015 that I'm trying to dig up again, it featured: 1) Techbro that wanted an open relationship with his wife 2) He receives a text saying that his wife is having a miscarriage while he's on the way to Burning Man, and opts to continue to burning man 3) Forms an open relationship with his wife, wife immediately hooks up with and gets pregnant from her yoga instructor 4) She takes everything, he's left with a woo writer of sorts that eventually leaves him He posted everything on, I want to say, Wired? With the title "Love will tear us apart." The internet rightly lambasted him and turned him into a laughing stock, and he ended up deleting the article, which was archived/reposted elsewhere. Does anyone have a link to that still?

sephiRoth IRA posted:Jesus. I can't even find the words. The style of the article itself is a sickening bourgeois self-parody. The first act is a nightmare, and then it becomes obsessed with the legal minutiae of Ivy League admissions and whether a girl whose mother used her as a crash test dummy has the right to call herself an underprivileged student. Halloween Jack posted:It makes my blood boil and my stomach churn. I've been in the position of having to get between an abusive mother and her daughter and I'm proud to have done it. And they not only failed to do the ethical bare minimum but went on a bizarre campaign to assassinate the character of, basically, a helpless orphan on behalf of her abuser. It read to me as a takedown of exactly those procedures, showing in detail how sickening their behaviour was.

HopperUK posted:It read to me as a takedown of exactly those procedures, showing in detail how sickening their behaviour was. This was my take too. This is a girl who got turbo hosed over and over and over and by the simple nature of her mother being rich and connected there was literally nothing she could do to get out. Penn deserves to be pilloried for their disgusting behavior and the clinical nature of the article is the way it is to avoid any bias on the part of the author. The facts are what they are. Any sane person, untainted by the influence wielded by the mother or without the lack of human empathy displayed by the university, would see this as an injustice.

My work is getting involved with this wood pellet industry, and there have been a number of articles over the years on how damaging it is to both local communities and the earth while giving people the warm fuzzies that they are being "green". Between this and the growth of blue hydrogen, it really seems like we're ripping the copper out of the walls for scrap and calling it remodeling. https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2021/07/us/american-south-biomass-energy-invs/

You can put worms where rabbits poop and sell them to bait shops for fishing. This is probably not feasible unless you have 50+ rabbits like my ex-girlfriend.

A request, if folks are still taking those: I read an article a long while back in (I believe) the New York Times about how soulless modern architecture has become, focusing initially on how a new skyscraper was just a dull and lifeless rectangle that was simply tall and nothing else, and then seguing into a broader discussion about how buildings function in cities and the emotional world they create by their presence. Does that ring any bells?

New Skip Hollandsworth: Glen McCurley Strangled Carla Walker in 1974. Was She His Only Victim? The drama isn't the case that convicted McCurley. Hollandsworth brings up the other issues involved in cold cases. The lack of effort to investigate them because money involved in a low reward situation. The family kept up the pressure, but Interest in this case was revived by a true crime podcast. Money had to be donated to do DNA testing. Forensic Files II covered this case recently if you want the nitty-gritty on the investigation. A new season of that is tonight and they've been replaying other FFII episodes.
