Good luck accomplishing that.

also yes the extreme expressions of anxiety over his open marriage do suggest that saying "cuck" all the time may have given some people a complex. gaze long into the abyss etc etc

It's his own fault for browsing 4chan all the time.

Really though, I feel like being called a cuck is the least of your issues if you dislike being in an open marriage.

Soyface's just a thing because if you're extremely online you tend to reflexively cringe at the online spaces where users have an affect that isn't on the same level of ironic distance and emotional closedness as yours.

Channers want to make fun of youtubers and use their usual reactionary memes as terminology and paranoid explanation for something banal, some goons are gonna try to make it about consumer culture or liberals or whatever, but really it's the same phenomenon as when one cringes at redditors saying "epic" for everything (I do the same where I find the typical Tumblr lingo to be way too performatively extra and quirky). An online community's general attitude can be dumb and basic without that being the sign of something sinister.

it started because of people mimicking the face Steve Carrell is doing on the poster for "The 40 Year Old Virgin". i know it's not the same face but that's how it started - doing a big fake goofy smile

How is the new show doing? I feel like the Samantha character carries SITC but no one wants to acknowledge that because a lot of the humor is tied in with her extreme promiscuity. It's like a joke that many people are laughing at for the wrong reasons.

There's a particular trend for media of that era to age like milk and funny to see examples on different ends of the gender-segregated marketing categories

Ally McBeal is also coming to mind for Futurama making a joke about how it disappeared from consciousness immediately after ending

I like the reoccurring theme that we made the present so lovely that we can no longer get people to buy-in to the idea of a future together. The cowboy outrunning the fire. The waitress not cooperating because the cops stole her tip. Even the brother making his last stand is a recognition that there is no future of 'success' he can fit into since poverty has made him such an angry motherfucker.

My issue is people are always talking about how GREAT the dialogue and general banter is but after a season of watching it with an ex, it felt like a lot of interactions that people would post about OMG this is so FUNNY XD could be boiled down to:

Characters A and B are chatting about something unrelated to the plot

A puts forward something outlandish and perhaps even a wacky

B, deadpan, points out a logical inconsistency or shortcoming in A's thought process

A deadpans an acknowledgement of said inconsistency

again and again and again I swear, all with the same tones and overall timing

E: to elaborate, the problem is also that not EVERYONE should have the immediate witty insight or awareness to point things out, but it always felt like a constant thing and ended up being irritating

Is there something else that's bothering you Mr. President?

I remember when the BYOB forum started and :imunfunny: became a brief thing for a while, there were definitely people posting pics of themselves imitating it in a proto-soyface manner, both genuinely and ironically. Maybe that's a part of its lineage as well, or maybe I just have "everything online came from SA" syndrome. Which I will NOT apologise for

A lot of "banter" based shows come off super artificial because people IRL just don't spend very much of their time bantering

This is also true for shows I like. Letterkenny is funny but I have to watch it with subtitles on because they just banter so goddamn much

Letterkenny banter is also very formulaic on a per-character basis, but it works because it's so formulaic that the formula is itself the joke, rather than just an unconscious tendency the writers have like Good Soup's Gilmore Girls example
