Michael Cusack is a cool and good dude. I enjoyed his 'YOLO: Crystal Fantasy' series that ran earlier on Adult Swim a lot but 'Smiling Friends' is on another level. Super creative, strange and confident in going into weird areas.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Smiling Friends. I just don't understand the heaping levels of praise on it though. It's funny, sure, but it doesn't really feel like it's anything super special either to me.

It's almost certainly aged like milk but I once saw a Team America making-of documentary and their frustration with the puppets was extremely evident. Plus they pissed off all the super serious puppeteers they hired when they made them act the sex scene and leant into the opening fight being a farce after learning the actual puppet fist fight they planned was impossible.
