I don't mind shows ignoring canon in order to keep a story moving (as long as you are actually keeping the story moving) and every Star Trek show exists in its own canon if you are going to really fine-tooth-comb things, but it is very odd for a show that has been cashing in on nostalgia so hard that it's literally had a character reeling off episode titles to decide to forget things like 'when was the first?'.

I felt like it was supposed to remind us about the Confederacy future, with the shield around the planet, so we could go "oh, so that's what that thing was doing", except 1) that was like a million episodes ago and 2) it was already obvious what that shield would be doing, so I don't know what they were going for. Maybe a fan-edit will replace it with a remote-controlled patio umbrella.

Kirk steals all the women that get close, he dies, he comes back, Kirk still steals all the women that get close, he tries to reunify with the Romulans but thats a no go when their sun goes, then he travels into the past into lens flare alt universe and watches his planet get wiped out. So he ends up in an alt universe with everything he ever did virtually null and voided out and has to hide so not to alter the future and his younger self who now can get all the rear end he wants.

It is better executed, but this season is following the pretty much the exact same pacing beats as well as throwing out plot threads that will go nowhere that S1 did. Right down to 'it's mid season, I get to write a heist script'.

Just watched the latest Picard episode. The way the psych scene with Renee is set up really dumb. "Oh that's Q" you say as soon as you hear the tropey voice of a Freud impersonator. "No poo poo it's Q" you say again as Picard comes to realize it. Do people with anxiety and depression issues instantly believe anything said by their brand new therapist that they've seen for maybe 2 days? How does Q have any sway without a build-up of trust? What a weird loving way to insert mental health into Trek, again. Maybe French policemen are just built different but I believe if I was working a security gig and got a call to an abandoned estate and found a stealthed spaceship, the absolute last thing I would do is board the spaceship. Y'know, maybe Kore would've done better with Q's drug if she let it circulate through her system for longer than 5 seconds before removing her laser-powered UV screen. I also hope she doesn't care for that nice dress she's wearing when she injects herself because she just got a bunch of blood all over the arm. I think I recognize Soong's house from Silicon Valley... didn't Big Head live there? It's pretty impressive that 2024 NASA is going to have enough funding to afford a security staff that instantly notices questionable attendance at an RF-chipped, face-recognized, background checked party in order to keep astronauts safe. Or maybe it's not that impressive when they seem to instantly forget she exploited a hole in their guest list. "She's probably from Newport Beach" indeed; you know how those rich partygoers hack air-gapped databases to get into parties. It is just... absolutely wild that a Star Trek show, known for hitting and creating many genres of episode such as Holodeck dream sequences, Run Lola Run time loops, devolution epidemics, and rapid aging/de-aging is finding itself forced to do a heist episode twice in two seasons. Also, as dumb as it is for Soongs to exist throughout all of history, I do enjoy his presence on the screen. He is a good actor. The teaster for the next episode heavily implies that the whole episode is heist related. Heist stories are fun. But much like in season 1, the heist has absolutely nothing to do with the themes of the show nor is goofy Picard's Eleven a tone match for Borg body horror.

There's a weird timeline thing. Picard and crew came back from the Confederation timeline which was apparently caused by Q's interference. We see Adam Soong was an honored figure. It's possible all the scenes we've seen of Q depowered were set further in the past. And the Q we saw in episode 1 & 2 are chronologically set later. We aren't watching Q try to foil JL's attempt to fix it. We're seeing him mess it up the first time which is required to get him his powers back (like he explained to Adam Soong.)

I mean, "finding a sentient microbe" may be a thing, I guess, but they just introduced that in this episode. In First Contact (the movie) they knew what the borg were doing right away and had a whole movie to talk about how important first contact was. It wasn't introduced halfway in among a ton of other stories.

She's supposed to skip this one, get treatment, and go on a future mission that's the actual important one. The lesson Picard hasn't learned, that Q is mad at him for, is that going to space is not the solution to all his problems. As in season 1, also Borg are there for some reason

Yep, I'm convinced now that the scene with Q snapping his fingers at Renee Picard in the cafe is the very first scene in the series, timewise. Q feels his power fading, does something incredibly stupid to stop Renee from going into space, which causes the Bad Timeline™ to happen. Then he runs to the moment Picard dies to pull him out of the timeline without setting off any further time trouble, because no one was going to be finding bodies after an entire fleet assploded themselves.
