As a really young child, I used to pet bumblebees. My Mom could not believe it. Forty years later, in my own back yard, I rediscovered this. Yes, you can pet bumblebees. I also have a ton of carpenter bees around my garage. They're just starting to emerge, and they are all over the place protecting their bores, while I'm working on cars or whatever. It's fun when people come over, because they freak out at how large & loud & swoopy they are. Eventually, they too learn to ignore them, because they are never aggressive and too nimble to even run into you. Though boy howdy they'll come close & sound like a Skyraider.

I'm very relaxed around bees and wasps in general but a hornet gets my attention immediately. In the summer when I'm trying to cool my place down at last light in the evening they sometimes fly in through the open windows and they sound like some sort of military drone.

I used to pet bumblebees too they're very chill. Once the flowers start to bloom I'll keep a look out. The bat sign made me smile, I don't understand why people are so scared of them. Yeah, rabies but...just leave them alone and you'll be ok. They just want to have a warm place too.
