Le Monde 1/4 Tjeerd Royaards from the Netherlands, entitled "Don't forget Afghanistan!" Charlie Hebdo on the French Election 2022 Today we took at one of "real" contenders: Valérie Pécresse. She represents Les Républicains (LR), the former UMP, in other words France's mainstream center-right (read: Right-wing) party. She's not doing well, polling just over 10% tied with an right-wing extremist (Macron and Le Pen, a far-right candidate are currently in the lead). I know nothing else about her except that she's been in politics for a while, served in other parts of government, and is the current head of the region of Ile-de-France which includes Paris, what sort of powers that grants her I couldn't say. France is very centralized so I'm not really sure what powers individual regions actually have. It's not really a governor. The comics: "City Friends of the Humans" I have zero context for this. She maybe said at some point that she didn't like animals? I really don't know. "Armenia: This year the three wise Kings are ahead of schedule" She had some rather islamophobic words to say about the conflicts in the Caucasus it seems. They were in response to things said by Zemmour the current far-right nightmare plaguing France. I don't know much about him, but I get the impression that he's so bad he makes Le Pen seem saner, which isn't good. A portrait of a meeting held by her during the primaries. Presented are the normal right-wing catch-phrases with your anti-immigrant, anti-lgbt+ language, anti-socialist language, and the like. "Ciotti is in favor of a French Guantanamo: 'Water-boarding shall be replaced by Beaujolais-boarding." Beaujolais being a type of wine whose annual production is a (commercial) event. This accompanied an article about how the LR is eating itself alive as more and more voters feel more inclined to vote far-right. Essentially she has to figure out how to be extreme enough but not so extreme to appeal to the broader community. "Pécresse against the inheritance tax: 'I paid nothing when I inherited from Sarkozy'". She made a similar comment to Sarkozy saying they should take a Kärcher, a brand of pressure-washer, to clean up the banlieues, suburbs akin to abandoned inner-city areas close to metropolitan centers. "Hasn't Pécresse cracked her shell too much?" literally to break the armor. The phrase was popularized by Lionel Jospin in a campaign in the 90's when he was trying to say he had humanized his otherwise austere personality. I suppose they're asking us if maybe we know Pécresse too well and it's not pretty. Entitled "Pécresse, soon the next replaced?" referencing her invocation of Replacement Theory, that she had to walk back since she's "not" the far-right. The article is sarcastically implying that the rally truly wowed the artist. "After the meeting at the Zenith Pécresse is in need of a real coach." I guess the above meeting did not go well. Let me know if you want any specific translations, as I said these can get wordy and I didn't want to bog it down.

Yes, good. It's good to realize that what's considered acceptable in mainstream society changes over time and what may be considered acceptable now will not be in the future, like how we don't portray black people with giant red/purple lips anymore (well, except for right wing political cartoonist). It's not a "There are no jobs!" cartoon it's a "Gas prices and inflation are so high even with a job I don't have enough money to survive!" cartoon. That's why he needs three more jobs to be able to afford food, you see. Because nobody ever worked multiple jobs before Biden took office due to being unable to afford basic necessities. Certainly not during Trump's presidency, nope.

Also the government is not allowed to mandate livable wages or provide direct support, it is only allowed to pull the gas prices and inflation levers to influence the prices of goods and services because unlike the other two that's not socialism.

So why do conservatives seem to think the Disney company is now some staunch supporter of LGBTQ+ rights? Because the behind the scenes stories I've heard about how the execs treated some of their cartoons seems to tell a very different story (hell, I believe there was a recent protest from some of their employees about this)

They're willing to compromise on minor issues. That makes them fully on board in the same way that Joe Biden is a Marxist-Leninist.

Disney offered up the weakest, most non-committal criticism possible of Ron DeSantis' law to make gay people illegal and pedophilia easier, and various writers and employees even went out in public and said minorities are human. Like those fuckin gillette ads took a stronger stance than Disney, but anything left of Pinochet is woke. E: duz posted:After the don't say gay bill passed, Disney said they were disappointed and totally are going to start donating to politicians who would reverse it. After getting pressured by various people at the employee level, Disney just stopped donating to campaigns altogether, rather than take a stand against republicans specifically.
