reminds me of finding air force delta strike at blockbuster and being like ’wait I recognize that character style this guy does smut!!!’, or seeing landgrisser and having the same thing happen. realizing artists did smut and then also still did relatively big name things was a real :eyepop:

Man, Kokkoku is one of those shows that's pretty good but not outstanding and kind of hard to recommend as a result? The premise of "time is stopped everywhere in the world except for one dysfunctional family (that get weird powers related to the frozen world) and a time-stop cult that's trying to either kill them or capture them" is pretty cool but I don't know if the show delivers well enough. I had fun with it at least

I had pretty much the same reaction but I know some people who love it. worth a shot, like even if you don't like it at least you got to see the great opening and ending 12 times

This is probably kind of controversial but I really enjoyed the ending

The protagonist is left more or less alone as the only person still trapped in frozen time with no way to free herself, and is slowly being driven to madness by the isolation. Then the wife of the guy who originally created the time stopping stone, Mariya, appears, briefly chats with the protagonist about the history of the stone and this whole Stasis world, and liberates her. It's a total deus ex machina resolution, but the existence of Mariya as this enigmatic ascended human kind of kicks rear end? Like she's just a regular person who happens to be immortal and have seemingly total control of the time stream like a goddess, and the entire conflict of the show was probably just a bunch of ignorant dipshits playing with fire from her perspective. She hints at this much larger history of time manipulation and conflict in her past as not really being a big deal at all and it's pretty cool

Don't get me wrong, I liked it a lot, but its reception online seemed to be pretty lukewarm. From even just a technical perspective I think they did a lot of really cool poo poo in animating this frozen world that operates on its own rules while the entire plot happens in the span of less than a second

Internet consensus on any show that doesn't do a generic story is usually not going to be well liked. It sucks but the majority of anime fans are bad unfortunately.

e:
Just remembered the show Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru (Beautiful Bones -Sakurako's Investigation) about a lady who really likes bones and uses that to help solve cold cases. Something never been done before I'm sure especially not on TV. Anyways it was alright and had a nice look. The ending was catchy as well.

I didn't know that Berserk's release schedule got wonky because Miura stopped working 15 hour days and started living his life. I assumed it was another mangaka working himself to death. Hearing that made me :unsmith:

reasonably sure the side projects were for Studio GaGa to do the bulk of the work on them no? I suspect he had some kind of near miss health wise like a decade ago and changed his lifestyle in response.

I checked and was surprised that it doesn’t seem like he worked on Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust just because the style seems so similar. (Amani did the cover art of the light novels, but the moves aren’t exactly that style, even if pretty much every interpretation of D is basically just Amani’s D).

Though speaking of VHD, I’m surprised there haven’t been more animated adaptations. The setting is basically sci-fi horror western, so you can do pretty much anything with it.

Edit:

Southpaugh posted:

Probably for the best. Steven King also had a near miss and rushed to finish the Dark Tower novels and there is a very noticeable, very huge drop in quality afterwards.
