I also put together a little recap/character guide that I mean to post over the weekend. Here it is anyway.

It's funny how old school Arlo and Janis has a better understanding of the internet and how people use it than both of the tech/computer focused strips.

To be fair to Boyce, based on the old-school Computoons getting posted, he did get how people use technology at one point. I think now the comics are the result of being out of touch and just writing down whatever computer-words happen to bounce together in his brain.

Holbrook is... okay I have never been able to bring myself to actually read any of his comics with any regularity, but most of what I have reads like a certain generation of writer: less about how people interact with technology and the possibilities of it in its early days, and more about the stereotypes surrounding "computer people." It's a little weird given that, by all accounts, Holbrook actually was sort of at the leading edge of webcomics when he started. You'd think he'd have a better grasp of that world.

Arlo reminds me so much of my dad (though that's probably true of a lot of American millennials who happen to read it, lol). My dad has always been an early adopter of everything, but never to have the shiniest, newest stuff, always because he was fascinated by what it could do or what he could do with it. And sometimes that was just listening to baseball games online!

I think it's easy to forget how wondrous and magical so much of the early internet was before Facebook/Google etc came along and decided what it was actually going to be. Your first time with a search engine, or a chat program, or RealPlayer really was like magic, probably a lot like what it felt like to see a light bulb for the first time as a teenager.

While Mads Eriksen went away, comics with norse themes became really popular in Norway. I'm guessing Mads isn't a fan of this trend.

I don't know if it still a thing but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buster_(sport_comic) is an example of a nordic sports comic magazine( originally spun off from a british one) if you switch over to the swedish wikipedia page, there's a list of like 50 comics that ran in the swesih magazine, all but like 3 of them are sports focused.

It's dig towards Pondus which is very much about soccer given that the main character is a soccer fan and play on a old boys team. Mads Eriksen and Frode Øverli (who makes Pondus) have had a mock feud going on for years where they pretend to be enemies although it's pretty clear that they respect and like each other.

I panicked for a moment when reading this, because I wasn't sure why Mark was asking questions with a confused look on his face. What could it possibly mean? How am I supposed to solve this brain busting puzzle? Fortunately, I then read the box below his face, which explained that it was because he was confused. I'm glad that was there to clear everything up, otherwise I might have laid awake all night unable to stop trying to figure out what was happening in that incredibly incomprehensible panel.
