I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

As in "those power poles sure do seem to jump out at you, am i right??" and my boss is head of the volunteer fire dept which is the only thing that passes for emergency/first response out here.

we've seen way more accidents involving cars and power/telephone poles this year, we had two absolute monster wrecks here in this town of 2,000 people over the last week.

Biking for groceries in inclement weather builds fortitude and fortitude is one of the most important things in the world.

Lmao it's legitimately like they just stacked an extra bonnet spacer under the bonnet (above the brand name) to make the grill even bigger for aesthetic reasons (which is I'm sure exactly what was done and why).

Now that's what I call a road diet! I think this design is pretty insane, but I'd be willing to hear someone explain why it's not.
Going back to the topic of advisory bike lanes/edge lane roads, I thought I would post this because this section of this video for a couple minutes has an example of what they can be like in Japan (audio is in Japanese; you can turn on machine translation of the automatically generated closed captioning but it's irrelevant to this topic anyway). Note that the video is sped up a bit so it may look slightly hairier than in real life.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpIb_q1Zd2A&t=1514s

It's interesting because the advisory lanes are very narrow and there are people parking in the road and stuff, but OTOH it kind of shows how on a street that's already sufficiently narrow, they can hopefully make it feel even narrower for cars and encourage them to slow down.

It's also a one way street which is pretty different from the one built in california though.

It makes so much more sense on that street. The American one is just so big and open.

We're kind of hosed with how big all of our streets are. It'll cost too much money and take too much time to redesign them anytime soon. We probably need our own "American" form of traffic calming that accounts for wide streets, but paint isn't enough. Everyone knows it's imaginary. Speed bumps are real though.

WSB Atlanta: Hartsfield Jackson to start multi-million dollar project to replace South Terminal parking deck.

https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/ha...LPS5P6N5VYUWWI/

quote:

ATLANTA — Travelers at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport can expect delays this summer season, even if flights are on time.

Beginning May 1, construction begins on a multi-million dollar project to replace the South Terminal Parking Deck, inconveniencing many drivers who prefer to park close by.

“There are definitely days you come in here and it’s hard to find a spot,” said traveler James Crum.

“I know everyone is concerned about the 31,000 parking spots here at Hartsfield Jackson, but don’t worry, you will always have a place to park,” said airport assistant manager Jai Ferrell.

What’s normally a four-minute walk will likely become a four-minute drive. Airport officials are encouraging travelers to take advantage of the newest parking deck called “ATL West.”

“That’s a lot of work just to get to the airport,” said Crum.

Once you park, travelers can immediately jump on the Sky Train.

The brand new parking deck opened during the pandemic. And while it may be a solution for some travelers, it’s hardly a simple one.

“I don’t want to take the Sky Train,” said traveler Braxton Sherrod. “I’m already here two hours in advance.”

Regardless, a new routine may feel very foreign, even for domestic travelers.

“Convenience is a big deal at the airport because it’s already a hard thing to deal with,” said Crum.

Circling the airport parking lot for a closer spot so that I only have to walk 30 seconds before my 2000-mile flight. Babies, all of them.

warmed my heart to see so many bikes parked at aldi at 8pm on a drizzly evening. there's definitely a lot more cycling going on round here, I never used to have problems parking but the bike racks are always busy now.

I cycle to aldi because every aldi car park is like a mario party mini game. just gotta park in this trapezoid shaped bay in this triangle shaped car park with a nonsensical one way system and also the delivery lorry is reversing through the middle of it during the busiest part of the day

Do Aldis outside of the us have baskets? They're slightly annoying when you walk or bike to them in the us because the ones I've been to only have carts.

It's not the end of the world but it's kind of slow if you're only grabbing a few things.

yeah, they have baskets. see more people with baskets than trolleys but that is probably warped by my local branch being on the high street.

the skills and know-how gap between america and many other developed countries is severe and should be a priority for elected officials. they are friendly countries for the most part and it's mostly state agencies doing this, i'm sure they would help train american government staff and supply relevant services. same idea as with the sewer socialists

The kneeling buses are kind of slow and there's something to be said for platforms for actual BRT... that said I don't think it's a good idea to dump them in the bike lane if there isn't room.

We have those here but I think they are all designed with the assumption that people are stepping on from the curb. Even if they can kneel low enough to for people to board at street level, you still need to make a ramp in the sidewalk or something to make the transition to the street accessible. Anyway you slice it, locating bike lanes to the right of the bus lane is going to require some infrastructure adaptation.

Hey neighbor looks like I got some huntin’ to do.

This area has become busier and busier in the ten years I’ve been here, yet this stretch of Chicago Ave is still crawling with lovely aggressive drivers.

I remember seeing a flipped suv on Chicago near Western not too long ago.

gently caress drivers. This stretch should be a single narrow lane.
