The scarlet letter was her passport into regions where other women dared not tread. Shame, Despair, Solitude! These had been her teachers, stern and wild ones, and they had made her strong, but taught her much amiss.

In meteorology, vorticity often refers to a measurement of the spin of horizontally flowing air about a vertical axis.

The Broadway Bridge in Little Rock refused to come down easily. The first attempt to bring down the main span did absolutely nothing. And even at the end one of the concrete arches survived the explosives and remained standing.

This was our local Home Depot and we obviously saw the giant plumes of smoke. The unverified rumors yesterday were that it started in the lumber department and really got out of control once it hit the adjacent paint section.

Curious to see what the investigation shows.

Figures that we’d demolish what was apparently the only over-engineered bridge in the US.

Very OSHA of them to keep the Kindling department adjacent to the Accelerants department.

I’ll have to keep this in mind the next time I go to the hardware store. Some I’m thinking of have the lumber and the paint in practically opposite corners, but I never thought about fire mitigation factors until now.

They needed room to put the Ignition Sources (lighting) in between them.

I have a friend who used to work at Lowe's back when they sold pool supplies. They kept them in the same department with the fertilizer. There was a rule not to store them on racking above each other because things leak, but its also the department where most of the employees are just there for a summer job.

It’s a mile from my in-law’s house, I usually bike right near there when we’re back visiting. My MIL sent a video of the smoke plume yesterday.

I don't understand. Did they not have sprinklers? How can a fire build to that scale if they did?
