mobby_6kl posted:3D printed some stuff for a diorama. Too bad I really hate painting with a brush but that's the next step. Really cool but for authenticity, the tank should be towed with the chain in sort of a V shape, connecting to two attachment points on the front of the tank, near the tank treads. All the (absurdy abundant) tractor hookup photos show them using that configuration. I think the chains used are a standard accessory carried on the tank itself. Looks like thick steel rope with eyelets on the ends.

I'm seeing stuff on Instagram that units in Mauripol have surrendered (not from russian leaning accounts). Hoping not, there is a brit in the marine unit there that won't have a great time if he's captured. Edit: goes without saying that I really loving hope it hasn't happened.

I definitely expected war, but reckoned Putin would just annex the Eastern territories, swat away some counter attacks and call it a day. Go home a conquering hero and wait out the sanctions before nibbling a bit more in a few years. In my defence I thought that because a full scale invasion was a ridiculously terrible idea.

BTW I think I found where that convoy got roasted. FIRMS is used for tracking 'thermal anomolies' - usually forest fires - but it's also a really good tool for finding combat hot spots. It doesn't just notice fires but also high levels of smoke/particles in the air. According to the post from earlier the convoy got blowed up about 40km from Izyum. So I took a peek and found this Link to the actual page parked at the same location -https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/#t:adv;d:2022-04-07..2022-04-10;l:noaa20-viirs,viirs,modis_a,modis_t,countries;@37.1,49.4,11z Looks like it happened over the weekend - reporting is generally delayed a couple days so thats not terribly surprising. A prime source behind this bullshit is the Grayzone and notable hack "journalists" Max Blumenthal and Aaron Mate. Their echo chamber is quite large thanks to regular appearances on the Jimmy Dore show (over a million followers) and a fairly large group of "anti imperialist leftist progressive" streamers. They've very publicly posted atrociously bad take after bad take but their followers are still eating it up and believing the bullshit they're spreading. Any attempt of objectively analyzing this war has been abandoned by this crowd, and you can see on their channels they post video after video bashing Ukraine along with videos propping up Putin as a good guy. A good example of this is youtube channels like this (take a look if you want but feel free not to give these people clicks either): https://www.youtube.com/c/TheDivewithJacksonHinkle/videos NMS for unbelievably lovely "journalism." And yes these types of people fully identify with the left and buzzwords like "progressive" "anti imperialist" etc. There was a pretty good twitter thread outing these types as straight up Russian propagandists. I believe some of them truly are paid propagandists (like Blumenthal) but most of them seem to be just following his lead and have drunk too much of the kool aid. https://twitter.com/neil_abrams/status/1513524696670736387 Unfortunately as stupid as these commentators are they have a growing fanbase that seems to have a lot in common with the far right. They get a lot of views that way and serve as a kind of intellectual basis for a fairly large community. The streamers help them out a lot too, if you group together the roughly 20 or so streamers that regularly feature those guys that's another million+ people watching their stuff. If you figure Russia might've spent half a million a year funding the Grayzone it's pretty good bang for their buck. Certainly a lot more effective than some of the tanks they sent into battle that lasted 2 days before getting blown up.

Everything you described just makes them sound like radical right wing. I don't see how you can be left leaning (in modern terms) and be in favor of fascism. That's a risk of categorising people like Bernie Sanders into this group who obviously is the opposite of fascist. I don't get why everyone tries to put a "left" tag on things. Russia are pumping their money into right wing pro-fascists, even if these people are "identifying" as left.
