Two Kings posted:Gilbert’s impression of Artie when he asked him for advice about his comedy DVD is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard on radio. He used to do that when he would visit Artie's many podcasts too. I always mix it up all of the impressions of John Madden because it is the sound of a fat guy saying something super obvious.

drat, this one hurts. Gilbert was a legend, a true comedian. He absolutely did not care if he offended someone or bombed completely. He knew what was funny and if the audience disagreed, gently caress em. He had such a cool, loving family too. He was fortunate to have found that towards the end of his life. His kids must still be pretty young. I hope they hold on to the fact that they had a fun dad. Goodnight, you cheap bastard. Gilbert with Richard Belzer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iScb7ZPFWHY

Gilbert on Cameo also ruled. my favorite was the Cold Ones guys seeing what they could get him to say and sending the dumbest possible meme poo poo like "I AM THE CUM LORD", and of course he'd bellow it into his phone with that wry smile on his face

My favorite deep cut Gilbert impression was from a show circa early 1990s when Robin did a news story about Cary Grant and Howard Hughes having been revealed in some memoir as having a love affair. Gilbert launched into this hysterical and over the top (yet still fairly accurate) Cary Grant impression and "re-creating" the interactions he imagined the two having.

I'd pay good money for video of Gilbert's infamous set before the Belinda Carlisle concert (or whatever musical act it was with an audience full of women and teenage girls) where he started bombing and just decided to be as raunchy as possible.

So when they had Charlotte Ray on (Mrs. Garrett from Facts of Life) he was polite and the co-host did most of the interview. Then someone like Adam West comes on and he's telling the Caesar Romero story. I honestly think if Gilbert was "cancelled" he'd be OK with that. He's said several times that before he gets on stage he quietly wishes someone would call in a bomb threat so he could just go home. Wikipedia has his cause of death listed and it looks like Gilbert had some kind of congenital heart condition. So I guess he had a heart attack or just didn't wake up one morning.

Vertical Lime posted:and he did it for the channel 9 show This will never ever not make me laugh. Insanely good. OHHHHHHH!!!!! Very sad about this, like every other Stern fan, as well as a fan of Gilbert's podcast. I was literally just listening to a bunch of Old Groucho out of the blue like a few days ago, it was so goddamn funny. How he'd bust other comic's balls was classic. The Artie impression was so great because it was just a fat guy who could barely get his words out of his mouth. He didn't try to match Artie's cadence or mannerisms. Also when he was on Norm Macdonald Live and Norm was doing a parody of meta-comics (Norm being "meta meta" as usual himself) like Bill Hicks, since Norm wasn't a fan of Hicks and that style of comedy, so he pretended to kill himself at the end of the first part. Gilbert was just dumbfounded and when they had the second part he just lambasted how terrible that bit was. Love these guys, RIP. https://vimeo.com/641952197 And of course, "For the Chance....." Good lord, this one always destroys me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75Aj6PUX49M

Isn't that mostly an act? I mean I can't imagine he was screeching and manically laughing every two words with his wife and kids. I'm sure he really wanted to be married and have kids and he wasn't actually depressed over it as he was in the interview

Yeah and he's more normal on his podcast. (unfortunately!) I mean everyone is mourning him today and no one is calling him a racist for all his stuff with Artie or a child molester for wanting to sleep with 8 year old Bindi Irwin.
