Also there's a new patch for weather, so that's neat. Also DR overhauls which are whatever. I keep getting missions ending before I've finished everything off though, which is a little annoying.

In Roger Tech, missions can end without killing everything:

- if BA are all that's left, and they weren't part of a unit; if a lance has 4 mechs/vehicles *and* BA, killing the mechs/vehicles counts as a lance kill. If the BA is one of numbered units, it has to die. (Correction: too many words there, "it has to die" is all that's needed. :unsmigghh:)

- if there's a hard mission objective that's completed (or failed? I dunno, never had one end like that); defend base has a turn limit, and even if you killed nothing and have only one building left, when turn X hits it's mission over.

If your primary objective is complete, usually you can extract from the designated zone, but I'm of the "don't leave nothin' for Charlie Word" school, and murder everything so I can be picked up from wherever I'm standing. (Besides, extract zones seem to be waaaay over on the other side of all the enemies anyway, or on the other side of the trigger for the kill team/reinforcements. (Looking at you, base destruction missions.)

I just used a VTOL, 2 squads of Achilles BA, and strafing runs to kill two lances of heavies and the unit they were escorting with a mixed lance of lovely mediums and lights

So BTA users, I've just installed this (and reinstalled BT for the first time since I played it post-kickstarter), and I had a popup about campaign flashpoints. My question is: Do these have a time limit? I didn't start anywhere near Arano space (I'm like 54 days away from the flashpoint) and I'm not super excited at the prospect of racing down there.

Can I just do it at some indeterminate time in the future, or do I need to get the ball rolling if I wanted to do the campaign in the BTA career?

They reappear but you won't repeat them though the rewards don't really scale so doing them earlier is better but the stories pretty fun. I did a lyran start so i'm halfway across the IS and slowly making my way down but i literally just got a 95 ton mech from a comstar assassination mission and now got 6 heavies soooo the rewards won't really matter hahaha.

Yeah, I just rolled Panzyr with a Goliath, Awesome, Catapault, and a Champion. Shockingly, the Directorate Hunchback did not hold up. It really ain't worth it from a score standpoint, but it's been years since I played the campaign originally, so it's still nostalgic and amusing to completely run wild on the missions with an overpowered squad.

Arghy

I always try to collect royal or medium clan mechs just to do those missions as some of them are really fun plus BTA has reworked some of the rewards. The claw for example is actually super fun but beware some of those missions as in vanilla all the loadouts were horrible so facing 3 lances of medium mechs wasn't an issue when they'd all overheat for half the fight but now that the loadouts are fixed you can get killed really drat fast haha. So far i got a tricked out royal phoenix hawk and kintaro loaded with clan tech but i'm gonna deffo grab some omni mechs just because of the built in BA hand holds.

Agreed, there痴 no way I知 spending like 3 months flying back down there from clan space now.

In other news, I got a couple complete salamanders and my first apc off an ambush convoy, looking forward to trying those out. It only took missing literal dozens of 75%+ shots at a vehicle with a single remaining structure point to finally end the mission.

Also picked up the HAG40 mauler on the last planet, its kinda dumb. It痴 got a 550 alpha with no recoil, no real heat and a range of like 1km after a little work. Admittedly it痴 slow as poo poo, so with a bad spawn it値l never actually make it into los before the mission is over.

Roger Tech's latest updates have open the salt mines again - recoil-induced knockdown. Heavy ballistic weapons (artillery, RACs/HGRs/railguns) can knock down the firing mech if not braced before firing or otherwise mitigated. Dual-arty non-superheavies are the most affected, I expect... I know mine are. Oh wait, my arty acts as *arty*, and parks until it absolutely has to move, never mind...

Alekto on Discord posted:

RogueTech MechRiders 1.2.2.4
!Requires Launcher 1.3.0!
KnockdownOnFire/BraceToFire mechanic added
- Some weapons (Railguns, HGRs, Artillery, RAC10/20 on high fire rates) now have a chance to knock the firing mech down by their enormous recoil.
- Chance is additive for all weapons fired. Chance is reduced by piloting (1% per piloting skill) and mech weight (0.15% per ton). There are some chassis quirks that reduce it too. Quad and SuperHeavy mechs are immune.
- You can comletely negate knockdown chance by bracing the turn before. So brace, next turn fire without moving will have no knockdown chance.
On Field Resupply/Repair
- Some vehicles (indicated by "Can Resupply/Repair" in description) can resuply ammo and repair armor in field.
- Unit in the hex next to such vehicle will get "RESUPPLY" pilot ability. Upon activating both units will shutdown for the time of resupply.
- Resupply takes 45 phases + 10 phases/ammo ton + 10 phases/50 armor points repaired. Uses special "ammo" on resupply vehicle. Omni-mechs/tanks resupply time is halved.
- This will not allow you to avoid repair/ammo costs as resupply "ammo" cost more. Nukes are not resupplied.
Battle Armor can now garrison buildings
- Done by using "Mount/Swarm" on building. Building will take damage instead of BA. If building colapes BA will take fall damage and will be disoriented (-3 accuracy and -5 initiative for 2 turns).
- Using "Dismount" BA will exit into the same hex it entered from. Holding Ctrl while using "Dismount" BA will exit to the roof.
Some new mechs, vehicles and models
Some minor fixes

The BA garrison sounds hilarious as well, not sure about the resupply/repair stuff. I'd have to give up offensive power both to field the vehicle, and while it's being resupplied it's not shooting.

Someone also posted their build for a Hunchback packing a Long Tom (arty, not cannon) and full armor, which made me giggle. Only three tons of ammo, but LT blapping has a big AoE... sorry about your reinforcement drop, bro.

Sounds like the Dreadnought gyro is getting nerfed soon, as well - might be a Savebreak thing.

Buuuut, with the new knockdown mechanic, I want to retry A Beautiful Day again - be nice to see those RACZillas/Thumperillas faw down go bleedout after shooting at me. (Of course, I have to *survive* all that to enjoy the pratfall.)

If you're talking about BA garrisoning buildings thats been in BTA 2 patches ago and BA ambushing outta buildings has been in almost as long as BA have. The problem is BA in buildings is very dangerous because buildings can go down quick and leave your BA exposed but it's a great oh poo poo option like when a mech carrying BA gets knocked down so you hop off into a building.

Also, if you don稚 already have all the DLC, check the title.

I started a new game with a bunch of small QOL/variety mods a couple days ago, I'd forgotten what double-edged sword turning up enemy force strength is lol

How it started: commander panic ejects from a Kintaro, Glitch in a Vindicator gets legged and then cored out by an enemy Thunderbolt SS, Hunchback G has an arm blown off and 0 CT armor left, last guy was a Trebuchet or something with MLs/SRMs.

How it finished: HO HO HO I HAVE A GRASSHOPPER :blastu:

Here's my list of what I usually play with, minus various debugging/mod creation tools. Feel free to add on whatever extra mech/weapons mods to these are they should be pretty lean when it come mod conflicts.

Yeah strafing runs can deffo hit vehicles and comstar/WoB run with that clan star system meaning 5 per lance so it can get really messy fighting against them--they're also considered, "end game" like the clans so they'll get max tonnage every deploy where other factions can get a negative roll and get lower tonnage. So I知 doing a new BTA campaign, and am starting to fade in Battle Armor. They are super squishy, super short range (except for the micro-gauss), super slow, and super easy to hit. They basically end up being injury farms, since losing one suit = injury.

I知 already doing smart things like putting handholds on mechs to tow them around, and reserving until I can pop them off, fire, then re-mount. But compared to earlier BTA where I could field 8-100 ton assaults plus 4 100 ton vehicles, now being able to field 6 mechs, 2 vehicles, and 4 suits seems a pretty significant decrease in drop firepower.

On top of that, I知 only doing missions up to 2-skulls right now, and am regularly getting them smashed up. I can only imagine what happens when I run into a disco battle master, or even a jumped up firestarter that evaporates them in one alpha.

So I guess my questions are

1. Do battle armors get better later?
2. Is there anything that will make them more effective, or worth a slot?

Technically the slots are free because you can't field anything else in those slots but when they do a swarm attack they'll only target 1 armor area which means they can potentially take out an assault mech if they hit the rear armor. The 6-8 ton ones are really good like the tengu is an 8 ton WoB BA that fields light mech armor and fire power, the krupp has built in mortars and can lay down a ton of fire power before mounting back up. They're amazing in high skull missions for quickly jumping off and finishing off targets then hopping back on.
