Depending on the age of the children, I think it’s actually pretty important to involve them in the home shopping experience so that they feel included in a process that is going to result in a major change to their life.

This happened with glass at the store I worked at. In our vestibule area where we had shopping carts there was a floor to cieling window, but they had thought ahead and installed a bumper about floor to +4 inches. Except over time everything gets bigger and stupider in america, including shopping carts. So in my era the front "bumper" of the shopping cart would top the curb. But wait, someone saw that coming too and installed a rail structure kinda like that! Except you could apparently get the front of the cart to hit the glass if you pushed one in at exactly the wrong angle. It took 6 years but one day I walked past and noticed the pane of glass was loving shattered and cracked from floor to cieling.

My solution after it was fixed was to cut down about 1 foot of plywood, spray it black, and lay it in there sideways as an extra bumper. Corporate recently remodeled the vestibule, and I noticed they made them remove my plywood bumper. So it's primed to happen again. Store manager knows it, and according to him the bigwigs didn't care. Said "That can't happen."

Sure, if you're being malicious and trying to sabotage showings that your landlord is holding then all bets are off. It's the people acting like putting your sex swing away when company's coming over isn't normal that I'm laughing at.

edit: that said, iirc most states have some stuff about how you can't just break a lease to sell a property from under a renter. Buying a house with someone renting it is a huge headache from what I've read in the home buying thread. So either you know the lease is coming up and the landlord has already communicated that they won't be re-upping it, or you're going to be a tenant of the new owner.

Now the real pro move to be a malicious dick and try to sour the sale would just be to tell the prospective buyers about all the problems with the property that you're aware of due to actually living in it.

um.....I did that in the living room, had 4 of them in each corner.....and yeah some people raised their eye brows about it.

The eye brows went up even further when I laughted it off and explained for a real good time you need to have a spring on the end of the hook.

In my experience, SBA set asides are a massive source of fraud. Most of the official small business are just subsidiaries of some massive conglomerate. We bid one small business set aside contract where all three companies that entered a bid were Honeywell subsidiaries obviously colluding on price. I don't know about GSA but SBA is a loving joke.

Even when the SBA office isn't being played directly by giant companies running sock puppet bidders you still get issues. I've work for the VA in Iowa and Now Virginia doing construction and in both places we had a tiny pool of general contractors that when we have to go though before we were allowed to go to open competition. Issue is these contractors specialize in getting these contracts and getting a low bid, often by intentionally underbidding and then inflating their change orders to make the money back. Even if they start out ok they inevitably go to poo poo as there is basically no competition.

It was also a huge issue that there wasn't nearly enough staff, at least in engineering, to actually managing all the projects we were getting funded for so there was a ton of burn out, people quitting and the remaining engineers having to take their load and then them burning out and just not having enough time to actually properly police the contractors. There also seems to be a big issue with old guard engineers and contracting staff having just given up on believing that things can be fixed even though relatively younger people like myself are pushing to change things and making visible headway.

I haven't seen much if any direct graft or corruption in the VA, especially compared to working for the DoD. It's mainly the whole organization had just atrophied into the mindset that things are poo poo and always will be.

May not be nearly as big of an issue in the not to distant future if the AIR commission suggestions are acted on as written. Close all the old VA infrastructure and build new (good), but drastically reduce the size of the new facilities and offload basically all in-patient and large parts of out-patient care to the private sector (very very bad). It that happens as recommended then all the fraud and waste that went on under the Veteran's Choice program is going to be chump change.

That's the point of a small business set aside. Only the pool of qualified small businesses are allowed to bid on the contract. Theoretically it gives small businesses a chance to compete with the larger corporations. Depending on the industry, it can be a very low number of small businesses or even just a couple of sham companies specifically set up to bring in small business set aside contracts.

OP mentioned Iowa. In Iowa there are 479 active construction (NAICS 26) contractors on SAM.gov. Prob most will be a small business. Further, of those, 140 self certify as a small disadvantaged business. (Prob 50% don't meet that definition but that's not the topic here.) I wouldnt call that a tiny pool of contractors. I suspect Zydeco will say they have a policy of asking for 8(a)/HUBZone/WOSB/EDWOSB first, but I am curious if he says theres some preapproved short list of unknown origin (maybe the list may be created via kickbacks?).
